We all know there are those times when we just need to get away. But how can you travel without breaking the bank? These places may be interesting to you and it could be a nice little get away.

1. New Orleans, LA

2. Vietnam

Vietnam is a place in Asia where you can travel on about $20 per day if you plan right. Tourism is picking up in Vietnam , but it's still an affordable destination with lots of student-friendly options for backpacking. Con Dao Island and National Park are great destinations in Vietnam to see sea turtles and other wildlife while exploring the area on foot.

3. Niagra Falls

Puerto Rico is a quick trip for American students because flights usually aren’t too long or expensive and you don’t even need a passport since it’s a U.S. territory. San Juan has lots of student-friendly hotels that have rates as low as $15 per night. You’ll get to meet other students and tourists from around the world and enjoy a fun party scene with local rum-packed mojitos.

5. Arenal Area, Costa Rica

Although Bolivia has been growing in popularity among travelers, it continues to be an affordable destination for college students. Depending on where you’re coming from, the plane ticket might set you back, but once you arrive, you’ll discover that you can afford lots of things on a tight budget. Transportation, food, alcohol, and accommodations can be afforded at around $20 per day if you are thrifty and plan your trip in advance.

7. Albania

There is no secret that traveling to Europe isn’t generally cheap, but Albania is an exception. The cost of living in Albania is much more affordable than elsewhere in Europe, in fact it helps out travelers on a budget too. There are some amazing beaches to visit in this extraoridany Mediterranean country if you’re looking for sunshine and relaxation, and the traditional food here is nothing short of amazing.

8. Panama City, FL

Florida has always been a top spot for college spring breakers. So why not visit during the off-season for better prices and fewer crowds? Consider visiting Panama City in the fall, say September or October. The temperatures are warm, the sun is shining brightly, the beaches are less annoying, and flight and hotel prices very reasonable. Take a look at vacation rental properties along the beach during the off-season, because you can sometimes find nightly deals as low as about $50 per night and be just steps away from the sand.

9. Thailand

Thailand has been an enduring favorite among college travelers, and voluntourism is becoming a big thing here. If you’re looking for an authentic, off-the-grid cultural experience, look into volunteering your time to a local organization, school, or home-building project. This is a great place to travel in the winter to get a little warmth and sunshine, and there are tons of adventure sport opportunities here with guide companies that offer kayaking, rafting, and even elephant-riding excursions. Look into hostels with shared rooms and bathrooms for extra savings while traveling around Thailand.

10. Savannah, GA

Why not hit the South? Savannah might sound like a place where your parents go to celebrate their anniversary, but it’s actually a really fun town to walk around, see the sights, and transform yourself into another time and place. Savannah is a southern city that embraces “to-go cup culture,” so you can explore this southern gem with your favorite cocktail or brew in hand. This is an amazing place to visit if you’re a foodie or just curious about what the hype is over southern cuisine.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
