Fall includes one of my favorite holidays; Halloween. Costumes, scary movies, trick or treating. I love it all. When the weather starts to get a little chilly, (or if you're in Charleston, SC like me, 80 degrees) I like to kick back with a good cup of pumpkin spice flavored coffee, a bag of popcorn and a good movie to help me get into the Halloween spirit. If you're looking for some recommendations, I've got a few that will hopefully get you in a spooky mood.
10. Sleepy Hollow (1999)
The only one I haven't seen, which is why I'm ranking it at number ten. A lot of people love this movie though, and I've watched the spin-off TV Series. Ichabod Crane (Johnny Depp, YUM) is sent to the town of Sleepy Hollow to investigate the decapitations of three people. The crime is said to be done by the apparition, the Headless Horseman.
9. Jennifer's Body (2009)
One of my first ever scary movies. Watching it now, it's sort of silly but you can't go wrong with this one. A vampire love story (ish)? Yes, please. When a super-popular high school student is possessed by a demon, her best friend, Needy, must save the boys that try to pursue her demonic friend, including Needy's boyfriend.
8. Corpse Bride (2005)
This is one of those that I feel like even if you've never seen it, you somewhat have an idea on what it is. Any Tim Burton movie is a classic for this time of year, really. A young soon-to-be-groom practiced his wedding vows in the presence of a deceased woman, and she rises from her grave, assuming he is to marry her.
7. Silent Hill (2006)
Another one of my first creepy movies. Seriously, this movie still freaks me out at 20-years-old, so. A woman goes searching for her adopted daughter inside of a creepy, desolate town, Silent Hill.
6. Monster House (2006)
I am convinced this is one of the creepiest "kid's movies". Three teenagers realize that their neighbor's house is a living, breathing house. Yet no adult will believe them.
5. Gremlins (1984)
I hated this movie for such a long time because of how much it used to scare me, but now its one of my favorites. A boy gets new pets and he breaks the three rules he was NOT supposed to break. This results in some...interesting things involving the pets.
4. Edward Scissorhands (1990)
Another great movie with Johnny Deep. Gah, I love him. A scientist builds a gentleman, Edward. Edward is left with an odd feature; blades for hands. He falls in love, is very kind, and has a lot of artistic talent.
3. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
Another classic Tim Burton film. The guy is a genius. The story follows Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king who has grown tired of the annual routine of trying to scare people in the "real world".
2. BeetleJuice (1988)
This one is so good. I watch this movie EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR. without fail. A recently deceased couple finds their house being occupied by an annoying family so they hire an obnoxious ghost to help them get rid of the family.
1. Hocus Pocus (1993)
This is my number one for so many reasons. This is one of those movies that I feel like so many people have memories from when they were little and watching this. I used to lay in my mom's bed every year and watch this movie. I don't think I've missed a year yet. Three witches are resurrected on Halloween night in Salem, and it is up to three teenagers and a cat to end them for once and for all. I highly recommend watching this one if you haven't.
