Summer is almost over! Fall rolls around on September 21 and that means school, cooler weather, and cute selfies for when you are apple picking and pumpkin carving. Fall is also a great time for one last road trip. The weather is cooler and many tourist places have died down because families are back in school. This doesn't have to be a crazy road trip either! In fact, some of the most beautiful places are state parks right here in our backyards! Here's a few last min trips before you pack your bag for that weekend get away.
1. Check out the website to your destination
During the Fall we experience rain, cooler weather and storms that all play a part in trails and certain parts of any outdoor area. This is the time of year for maintenance and cleaning up, so see what is available during a specific weather occurrence.
2. Pack snacks
Road trips can be a really long time if your stomach is growling and you just want to find somewhere to eat. A lot of the towns that have scenic parks and attractions are also the traps of expensive purchases and retail options. Save your money for a better exchange, pack some snacks and enjoy the ride.
3. Plan for the activity
I love going hiking with my boyfriend, so to me that means not always looking super cute. Instead, we need sneakers, extra water, removable layers for possible outfit changes, and a travel bag. This is totally different then what someone going to the beach, the museum or going to check out trendy shops would need. Plan accordingly and adjust your itinerary and items to bring according to your trip.
4. Have a bit of cash handy
Tiny towns are awesome. They have great hidden restaurants, cool shops, and awesome people. They are sometimes short on credit card machines. Most state parks also run more efficiently if you can pull out a few dollars cash in stead of handing them credit card.
5. Plan out a route
This one might sound like "duh, my phone will take me there." But, sometimes maps or other apps can glitch up when it comes to construction. If you know a major highway has construction or a quicker route, check out a large scale map before you head out.
6. Grab a few friends
No road trip is complete with a travel buddy to go with you!
