Thoughts We Have During Recruitment

There are so many things that happen before, during, and even after recruitment. Until you are on the inside of sorority recruitment, you really have no idea about all the planning that goes into making it perfect and aiming to get the most well-rounded group of girls. While enduring summer workshops, polish week, and then recruitment week itself, there are quite a few thoughts that cross our minds:

I'm hungry. When is lunch?

I may not come back after lunch. (JK, I will. I'm not getting fined.)

Wow, she is perfect. RUSH CRUSH for sure.

If I have to practice this dance one more time ...

Wow, I am awesome at this dance! I could really be a Spice Girl.

What if I started them back up? Spice girls + me. It would be perfect.

Should I eat chicken fingers or Mexican for lunch?

Oh yeah, I ate Mexican last night for dinner. And lunch yesterday. And for dinner the night before that.

Chicken fingers it is.

Or I could just get chicken fingers at Mexican and have both...

WHERE IS MY PARTNER AND WHY IS SHE NOT HERE?

Oh, I just didn't see her. There she is. Sorry for assuming you were lazy.

WHAT IS SLEEP? I haven't slept in days. Someone, let me sleep.

Big, find me something to do.

Would anyone notice if I went and hid in the closet during this part?

You know, I didn't know I had that in common with her.

I learn new things about my sisters everyday. Wow, they are awesome.

I am so lucky I found my home here.

I hope all the potential new members find their home like I did.

I hope their home is the same as my home.

Maybe if I look at her long enough, she'll give me some of her food without me asking.

We are going to get such awesome girls. I mean, look at my sisters!

MY RUSH CRUSH JUST ENTERED THE HOUSE.

Why am I not talking to her?

She better keep a good conversation with her. I need her to be mine.

I will spoil her better than anyone else.

This is driving me crazy.

Save the sass for someone else.

I'm hungry, again. Thank you, alums, for the yummy snacks.

I'm never doing this again. I swear. I am so stressed.

Bid day is tomorrow.

I hope the new girls like our theme.

OH MY GOSH, THEY ARE ALL SO PERFECT.

I'm so glad they came home to us.

You know, this actually isn't too bad.

I can't wait until next year.

Recruitment is a stressful yet exciting time for everyone involved. So much goes into it, but the reward is so much greater than all of the work you do in preparation. Go recruit, bring in your new sisters, but remember to have fun and focus on your current sisterhood, since that is what it's all about. You never know what you'll learn about your sisters or the friendships that will strengthen while being together all day every day. Good luck, everyone.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
