As a college student, I've learned to be pretty independent. When I was a freshman, I was going home all the time, because I was not prepared to be as independent as I am now. Because I wasn't getting separation from my home and my hometown, I didn't get to really appreciate being away from home. Now that I am settled into my college life and have made a home here, I don't go home as much, and I've come to realize that there are not only differences but things I get to appreciate while I'm home. These are the thoughts that go through my head every time I'm back in my hometown, and they are relatable to most college students living away from home.

1. I finally get to eat mom's home cooking

My mom is arguably the best cook I know, and every time that I go home, I am so thankful that I get to eat her cooking. It's an even better bonus when she sends me back to school with leftovers

2. I get to cuddle with my fur babies

Giphy

My cat is 16 years old and before I left for college, I slept with him cuddled up right next to me on my pillow. When I get to go home, I get my cuddle buddy back, even if it for a short time.

3. HOLY CRAP, DID MY BROTHER GROW EVEN TALLER?!?!

Giphy

Somehow, the tall gene skipped me but went to my younger brother. Every time I go home, I have to double take because it seems like he's grown another 3 inches.

4. Oh my god, I get to take a shower with WORKING water pressure

Giphy

When I got to college, I lived in a dorm for 2 years with no water pressure. This year I moved to an apartment, expecting a better shower experience and I was absolutely wrong. I've come to realize, there's never going to be a better shower experience than when I'm home.

5. I get to sleep on a bed that doesn't actually suck

Giphy

Let's face it, I will never be satisfied with any bed besides the one at home. It's too comfy not to love and appreciate.

6. Even though he's annoying, I've missed my little brother

Giphy

My little brother is 15, and he's at the age where attitude and angst are running deep through his veins. He can get pretty annoying at times, but I still miss him all the same and want to hug him tight.

7. I don't like riding in the car while my brother is driving

Giphy

Yes, my little brother is at the age where he can drive. Yes, he's had plenty of practice. Does that mean I'm ok with him driving? Absolutely not. I'm the appointed driver from this point until the end of time.

8. I wonder what's going on in Gainesville tonight

Giphy

When you go to one of the greatest schools in the nation, and world if you ask me, you always want to check back in to see what's going on; cause let's face it, there's always something going on in Gainesville. From sporting events to university functions, when you leave campus, there's always something to check back in on.

9. And finally: Wow I've really missed my family

Though I'm an adult, and I don't get as homesick anymore, I still miss my family quite a lot when I'm at school. When I get the chance to go home and spend time and love on my family, I get to realize just how much I have loved them.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
