Social media has been changing the world and the way that we communicate with one another for years. Most recently, there has been a paradigm shift in the way that Generation Z has been talking and meeting new people, particularly using mobile devices and apps.

From swiping left and right, live streaming, daily posts and so much more, people are meeting new people and keeping in touch with friends worldwide. Many people are beginning using video-based chat apps instead of texting apps because of the face to face interactions they can have with one another.

Despite social media being such a prevalent factor in our daily lives, it can become difficult to genuinely connect with new people through the internet. Apps such as Monkey have been used by teens and more recently, HOLLA has been increasing amongst college-aged students and individuals.

The short description of these apps would be a cross between FaceTime, Snapchat and “chat-roulette without the pervs.” Sounds funny, right? I have found that so many people are making relationships and new friends through video-based social media apps more and more on my own campus at USC.

The app has several different features including face filters and location filters so that you can talk to people in a common area near you. It is no surprise that our generation has become digitally dependent on technology to brand themselves through sharing content, to not only make friends but to work with companies as well.

Recently, I was on HOLLA experimenting with the app and talking to a bunch of random people, but having extremely funny conversations. After about five different conversations, I happened to come across someone from the UK who also represents HOLLA at their University. This goes to show how connections can be easily made and friendships can be born locally and globally.

While using video apps such as the ones listed above has been unfamiliar for many, there has been a growing popularity amongst Generation Z, Millennials and previous generations.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
