2018 is here and to go along with the "new year. new me!" saying, I decided to take on my form of a New Year's Resolution. It's [insert number here] things that I am leaving in 2017 because they have no place in my life in 2018. This year, I'm going to change things up in my life and realize that some of the things that made my 2017 miserable will not be happening in 2018.
1. Trying to be friends with an ex
In 2017, I was all for trying to be friends with an ex. I believed that my ex and I were friends before we decided to take our relationship further and we would still be friends afterward. I was sadly mistaken. If your ex did not treat you well and was not aware of your worth; and didn't do anything to better themselves in your relationship or in life as you were together, not only do I advise you to break it off, but don't even try to be friendly with them.
They will try to weasel their way back into your heart or if they have a lot of feelings, they will stalk you on social media, harass you, and then possibly threaten your current relationship at the time. (I know from experience.) So, let's just leave that in 2017.
2. Victim blaming
I will always keep coming back to this subject because it is ridiculous. Leave victim blaming in 2017. It has no place in 2018. If a woman confides in you about her sexual assault or misconduct story, no matter how crazy it sounds or any other factor in the story, BELIEVE HER. Being a horrible person that is discrediting another person's traumatic experience has no place in anyone's life in 2018 because it's a horrible thing to do.
However, let's shout out the many celebrities who wore black on the Golden Globes Red carpet to stand with the many victims of assault and, more importantly, let's celebrate Viola Davis' words of strength and encouragement to sexual misconduct victims who have yet to speak about their own experiences.
3. Kylie Jenner's Silver Series Brushes
Almost $400 for a set of makeup brushes all because of a name?! Miss me with that. Actually, miss the world with that. No one unless you're wealthy, spoiled, or maybe just a beauty influencer can afford the brushes. However, not even the big beauty influencers such as Jeffree Star, Laura Lee, and Manny MUA like these brushes. So, what I can assume is that due to poor sales, Kylie will have to stop manufacturing the brushes and therefore they will get left behind.
4. Misogynistic Laws
She scares me. She really scares me. I'm not lying about this. First off, I do not agree with a robot having extremely high intelligence speaking at very prestigious conferences around the world and having more rights in a country as a FEMALE ROBOT than the country's actual FEMALES. Then, it's how her mouth moves when she speaks, it is completely off and I know I shouldn't pick on it because she is a robot and can only do so much, but have we forgotten that Will Smith movie called iRobot? Didn't a robot murder someone? I am not really with that.
But also, Sophia probably cost a ton of money to make and buying her a wardrobe (that is better than mine which is unfair) was expensive, but they couldn't buy her a wig with some bangs so I don't have to see the gears in her head?? Or, maybe covering her hands with skin? Oh! I forgot she also said she would "destroy all humans." So yeah, can she please be canceled in 2018? For my sanity?
