There's nothing like Christmas in the city! Extravagant light displays, street performers singing Christmas carols and flocks of people rushing in and out of stores. The minute December hits, New York suddenly turns into a winter wonderland, making even the grumpiest of New Yorkers smile from time to time. If your ever in New York, these are some things that should be at the top of your bucket list.
1. See the Radio City Christmas Spectacular
I've seen this 3 times and I'm still not sick of it! From the dancing Rockettes to the vibrant scenes of Christmas in NYC, this show never fails to put one in the Christmas spirit!
2. Visit the Bryant Park Winter Village
Bryant Park is one of the few holiday markets you can find around the city. It is full of various vendors who carry anything from handmade gifts to delicious food! It also another great place to ice skate in the winter.
3. Go ice skating in Central Park
Central Park is a great way to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. Go to one of the two ice skating rinks in the park for a bit of fun and enjoy the breathtaking view of the skyscrapers while skating.
4. Visit Rockefeller Center
I strongly believe that everyone should see Rockefeller Center during the holiday season at least once in their life. The whole area is decorated with lights and, of course, the Christmas tree is a must-see! Also, if your willing to wait in line, you can skate at the ice rink right under the tree.
5. Walk along Fifth Avenue
Fifth Avenue is home to big department stores like Macy's, Saks Fifth Avenue, etc. Each of them decorates their store windows according to a different theme every year. On top of seeing the windows, there' s usually a light show that is projected onto the side of their buildings every 15 - 30 minutes.
7. Get hot chocolate at City Baker
After being in the cold for so long, you'll probably want something to warm you up. City Bakery is known for their amazing hot chocolate. Did I mention they have homemade marshmallows?
8. Ride the vintage subway line
Every Sunday in December, old subway cars are used to bring back a little nostalgia during the holiday season. These cars date back to the 1930s and were used up until the 1970s. You'll probably catch a glimpse of people dressed up in costumes that go back to that era, too.
