During Spring Break many Americans flock to Cancun, Mexico for a relaxing and party experience. But an hour south of Cancun, Mexico the small but growing city of Tulum offers tourists a variety of fun activities and sites to visit that are less expensive but are as equally relaxing, fun, and stunning as they are in Cancun.

Here are four fun activities you need to go to if you visit Tulum, Mexico.

1. Beaches

Like Cancun, Tulum offers its residents and guests with some of the most beautiful beaches. The water is crystal blue and its san is soft and white. Depending on the beaches one visits depends whether there is entry fee or not.

2. Cenotes

Mexico sits mostly on limestone rock, this allows for sinkholes and caverns to be created. Cenotes were either collapsed caves or sinkholes but are now swimming holes. These swimming holes have clear cool water that is for the most part safe to swim in.

3. Archeological sites

Mexico is a culturally rich country. Every region throughout Mexico offers different cultural and historical experiences. For the Yucatan peninsula region, Mayan history and its culture is something one must experience and embrace when visiting this region. Throughout the Yucatan Peninsula, the Maya people built pyramids that are all scattered across the southern parts of Mexico and if you are visiting Tulum or Cancun be sure to visit these historic sites.

4. The jungle

The Yucatan Peninsula is environmentally different from most parts of Mexico, which have drier or less tropical climate. The Tulum area offers tropical and jungle environments. If you are visiting archaeological sites, cenotes, and beaches make sure to take a stroll in the jungle.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
