1. Wawa Convenience Stores
I seriously can't picture a world without a Wawa on every street corner. I mean, where do you guys get your coffee? Wawa is genuinely the love of every persons life here in South Jersey.
2. The Jersey Shore
Hands down, the best place on Earth. It's no regular beach. It's miles and miles of the sand, waves, and boardwalks that are embedded with our memories and sandy footprints from when we were still in our mommy's tummies to now.
5. The Best Diners
I've been up and down the East Coast and I have to agree with the fact that New Jersey diners really are the best. Plus, many of them are open all night. So, if you need those 3 a.m. banana pancakes, just cross the Walt Whitman.
6. Philadelphia
On that note, all South Jerseyans can all agree that having Philadelphia right next door is pretty awesome. The Liberty Bell? Oh, that's about ten minutes away. The room in which our founding fathers created the basis for our liberty, the Constitution, that we all thrive upon today? Yeah, just make a left and you're there.
10. The Jersey Devil
Every location has got their famous indigenous monster. Seattle's got Bigfoot and Scotland's got the Loch Ness Monster. Well, little New Jersey has got one of it's own! The tale of the Jersey Devil is one we've heard about for years and we've shared stories about on annual camping trips to the Pine Barrens.
11. Jughandles
Apparently, nobody else has these?
12. New York
Philly on one side and New York on the other! Every time I'm there, which has been every weekend for the past month, I constantly recollect to myself. How lucky are we to have one of the biggest and most influential cities in the world just an hour and a half away?
13. Cities and Beaches All in One Place
You can take a day trip to Atlantic City, Philadelphia, Wildwood or New York City and you don't even need a hotel room. Every one of these locations is no more than an hour and a half away. This is something I'm grateful for, especially when it's summertime and I have access to the shore all of the time.
14. Hoagies
Heritages or Wawa, it's always these little East Coast stores that make the best hoagies.
15. Highly Coveted Tomatoes
Corn, too! You can count on finding small, family-owned farmer's stands on every country road. For some, they allow you to pick your own apples or blueberries straight out of the orchard!
16. Jawn
Now for the South Jersey specific language. You never really realize that nobody else knows what you're talking about, until you ask someone to pass you the jawn and they have no idea what you're talking about.
17. Supposed Jersey accent
I don't hear it at all! But apparently it sounds like "JAW- ZEE?"
18. We Don't Even Know Snooki..
I've got to be honest, The Jersey Shore was my six year old self's favorite TV show. But how can a show be based on the Jersey Shore if you never see the Cape May Lighthouse or the Wildwood Ferris Wheel once?
19. We Get the Best Concerts!
Another Jersedelphian benefit. Every artist comes to Philly! Heck, some of them are even Philly-natives. Meek Mill!
I don't... think so? Are you thinking of a New York accent?
21. Referring to Our Locations As Our Exits
And the exits of our high school rivals football teams are to go unspoken... Much like "He Who Shall Not Be Named" in Harry Potter. We literally refer to our rivals as Exit 32.
22. Cheese Steaks
Another City of brotherly love benefit! The cheese steaks you guys are eating are fake- anything besides the ones at Geno's or Pat's aren't the real deal. Fortunately, for us, we have access to these just ten minutes away.
23. Farmers Markets
They are on every street corner! There's literally one on the same road as my house. It's a necessity especially for that tomato cucumber salad that my mother constantly makes in the Summer. It's safe to say that Jersey vegetables are a hit.
24. "Jersedelphians"
So, if you were wondering at my use of this noun throughout this article, I'm going to explain it to you. A Jersedelphian is someone who lives essentially on the borders of Philly, sitting on the Delaware River, right across the bridge. We have access to all things Philly, but we just don't live directly in the city. Ten minutes away, but here we live in neighborhoods instead of cute little town homes, a native Philly tradition.
25. Plans Every. Single. Weekend.
New Jersey is right in the middle of a bunch of chaos! There is SO much to do! Most people are at the shore every weekend. Sometimes it's New York. Sometimes it's a ten minute trip over the bridge to Historic Philadelphia. We South Jerseyans are so lucky to be nestled right in between all of this beauty.
