10 Things You Will Become Immediately Nostalgic About Once You Leave The Halls Of High School

Let's face it, high school is not the best time for anyone. All that any high school senior can think about right now is waiting to get their diploma and never have to go back again. Which is nice, but soon, you will be looking back on those days as you pack your stuff up to leave for college.

1. Familiar territory

The first few weeks of college will seem like nothing but a bunch of new, overwhelming experiences, and you will start to miss the routine that you were used to in high school.

2. Seeing your best friends everyday

Sure, you'll make new friends in college, but nothing beats sitting with your best friends at an ugly, uncomfortable cafeteria table every day.

3. The workload

No matter how many AP classes you took, nothing beats the overwhelming stress that comes from 5-6 classes full of boring lectures followed by hours of textbook reading.

4. A smaller campus

I went to a pretty big high school, but it was nothing compared to the large campus full of 25,000+ students that I am a part of now.

5. Your parents

All you want to do right now is get out of your parent's house so they can stop hounding you all the time, but when you try to do laundry for the first time, you'll wish your mom was there to do it for you.

6. Friday night football

You are going to love spending Saturdays day drinking in a huge stadium watching a college football game, but there's something about standing under those stadium lights on a Friday night surrounded by your closest friends while dressed head to toe in your school colors. College football doesn't quite compare.

7. Being the top dog

You could be in the top one percent in your class when it comes to academics, but that won't matter once you're in college. Your high school transcript is relevant for getting into college, but not necessarily for staying in.

8. Your house

If you're like me, soon you'll be leaving the same house that you were raised in. It's a bittersweet feeling saying goodbye to a place where you made countless memories. And don't even get me started on leaving your pet!

9. Substitute teachers

This is a small, underrated one but don't you just love the feeling of walking into a class with a teacher you hate and seeing a substitute? In college, your professor just cancels class when they can't make it. Lame!

10. How fast high school flies by

High school feels like it never ends, but before you know it, you're walking across the stage in your cap and gown. Enjoy the speed while it lasts, because trust me, nothing moves slower than the last few weeks of spring semester in college.

No matter how much you hate high school, you will soon look back on it as not being as bad as you remember. College is a whole different game, and before you get into a new routine, you will miss how familiar everything used to be. But don't worry, soon you will get a hang of things and you will still have the memories from the previous four years.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
