As winter is right around the corner, let's take a look at all the exciting things that take place during this thrilling season.

1. Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow

While shoveling snow can be frustrating, the joy of watching the first snowflakes of the season brings out the little kid in all of us, yes, including you. I'll admit, I am not a big fan of snow by any means, but waking up to a sheet of white that glistens outside my window that causes classes to cancel, brightens my day.

2. Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows

As the air becomes brisk, there's nothing better than drinking hot chocolate with marshmallows! Your body is instantly warmed as you indulge in your favorite mug of America's favorite winter drink.

3. Dressing Cozy

Don't get me wrong, dressing to the nines is fun, but being able to lounge in an over-sized sweatshirt, sweatpants and fuzzy socks is really comforting

4. FUZZY SOCKS

This deserves to be listed as its own because everyone LOVES fuzzy socks this time of the year. (HINT: looking to buy the perfect gift? Fuzzy socks are definitely the way to go!)

5. Holiday Music

I live for this time of the year. While I do love spring and summer, from December 1 to December 31, I spend my car rides, homework time, and free time dedicated to listening to the classic Christmas music along with my favorite country singers twist on Christmas. Nothing puts me more in the holiday spirit than singing, dancing and decorating the house to Gene Autry's, "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" and all my other favorites.

6. ABC Family's 25 Days of Christmas

Because who doesn't love 25 days watching all your favorite movies! (The Polar Express and Dr. Suess' How the Grinch Stole Christmas are personally my favorites on ABC Family!)

7. Baking

This time of the year calls for a tradition in our house, BAKING. There's nothing like getting messy in the kitchen only to enjoy the delicious treats with your family.

8. Winter Break

A month of no classes, I think yes!

9. Spending Time With Family

Holiday's are not only about giving, but spending time with the ones you love. Whether your tradition is playing board games or huddled on the couch with a bowl of popcorn enjoying a classic movie or show, it's the memories made with your family that mean the most.

10. Sending and Receiving Holiday Cards

It's a classic! Featuring my family's 2016 Christmas Card :)

11. Celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa!

Happy Christmahanakwanzika! :)

12. New Year's Eve

No better way to reflect on the past year and ring in the new year than surrounding yourself with family and friends. Enjoy entertainment, (we watch Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve) celebrate your accomplishments, and list goals you hope to achieve in the new year.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
