The year 2017 was full of ups and downs. It was filled with crisis, disasters, scandals and twitter wars. Checking the news every day took a toll that shook us all to our core, but the good news is, a new year is right around the corner and we can’t be happier...also Betty White is still with us. To help you get through the last 2 weeks of the year, here is my list of wonderful events and things we can look forward to in the upcoming year.

1. Amazing movies

2018 has an incredible lineup of new movies. We get humor, sci-fi, action, remakes, sequels, you name it it’s coming. Some of the most anticipated films include:

  • “Ready Player One” Release date, March 30th
    • “Avengers: Infinity War” Release date May 4th
    • “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” starring Chris Pratt, what could go wrong this time? Release date, June 22nd
    • “Ocean’s 8” this stars Sandra Bullock, Mindi Kaling, Rhianna and Cate Blanchet. An overall chick filled flick. Release date, June 8th
    • “X-men: Dark Phoenix” with our favorite GOT actress Sophie Turner, release date, November 2nd
    • “Aquaman” starring Khal Droko from Game of Thrones or as he likes to be called Jason Momoa. Release date, December 21st.
    • “Fifty Shades of Freed” The franchise will come to an end with its third installment. Release date, February 9th.
    • “Bohemian Rhapsody” the newest biographical movie about the legendary band Queen, starring Rami Malek from Mr. Robot (yes! If you haven’t seen that show stop whatever you’re doing and go watch) Release date, Christmas day.
    • “A Wrinkle in Time” starring Oprah! Release date, March 9th.

There’s more where that came from, IMBD has a full list check it out here and start marking your calendars.

    2. A Royal Wedding

  • Windsor castle continues to keep us entertained. The most eligible bachelor, Prince Harry is now engaged to none other than Megan Markle, an American actress and if you are one of the 15 people who watch the USA network you might recognize her from the show “Suits". Markle’s background is what makes this royal story that much more interesting. She is a half-black, once divorced American actress, making this couple a must watch. The wedding date is set for May 19th. No matter how you feel about the royals, this event will be talked about for years to come.
  • 3. A Royal Baby

  • If the excitement of a new wedding wasn’t enough, the Duchess of Cambridge will be giving birth to her third child in April. There are a plethora of things to be excited about, boy or girl? What about the name? And most importantly what will he or she look like? So much to look forward to.
  • 4. Normal People Going to Space

Yes, you read that right, Space X plans to send people to the moon next year. It will take two paying passengers in a loop around the moon, but all details aren’t clear just yet. Here is what we do know; the two passengers have been chosen but Elon Musk is keeping their identity anonymous, the device they will be traveling in is called Dragon 2 and if all goes according to plan they will leave my mid-2018. The trip will last about a week and cover as much as 400,000 miles.

  • 5. Teslas new Semi Truck

  • Elon Musk can add trucker to his resume with his new electric big rig reveal. We learned about the trucks earlier this year and it’s unclear when they will be released, but we will be getting more details on the concept in 2018. Musk released a few teasers this year that will shake up the trucking industry forever. Truck accidents are responsible for more than 4,000 deaths in some states like Florida, this is according to a Fort Lauderdale personal injury attorney. Musk is trying to change that statistic, the trucks are rumored to be safer and faster, getting to 60 mph in just 20 seconds. The seat is also placed dead center and far forward since an engine is no longer present, this change is supposed to give the driver more road visibility. Stay tuned.
  • 6. Midterm elections

  • The midterm elections could shake up the future of members in the House and Senate who are up for re-election. A national poll showed 68% of Americans don’t think most members of Congress deserve re-election. 2017 was a heavy political year and it would be a lie to say it wasn’t. More people, especially, millennials are making their voices heard and getting behind several political movements. This is everyone’s chance to exercise their right to vote.
  • 7. New technology trends

  • Technology is moving faster than we ever imagined, it’s changing the way we communicate, the way we work and how we lead our lives at home. 2018 is set to bring some impressive trends including intelligent apps and analytics. Artificial intelligence is said to be added to the apps we use on our smartphone with a dedicated AI chip. It’s reported that nearly 60% of organizations will also start to build more AI strategies to improve decision making, create a better customer experience and transform business models.
  • 8. New TV to watch

  • 2018 will bring back tons of shows we’ve all been missing. ‘Westworld’ is coming back on HBO, ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ on Hulu and the controversial ‘13 Reasons Why” on Netflix. There are also a handful of TV shows to get excited about, for those who love true crime, ‘The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story’ is premiering on January 17th on FX and ‘Unsolved’ a depiction of the murders of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls will premiere on February 27th on USA. Roseanne is coming back with a revival! The entire cast is coming back on ABC on March 27th. You can check out the full list of new seasons and new shows on every channel here.

    14. Award season 2018

With all of the sexual harassment and sexual assault accusations in Hollywood, the award season is going to get interesting. First up are the Golden Globes and women in Hollywood have already taken this opportunity to take a stand. You can tune in at any given time during the day and for almost a full month. The winter Olympics will be held in February from the 9th to the 25th and will be held in South Korea. There has already been some controversy regarding the event. Russia has been banned from participating as a result of an alleged state-backed doping program, which did not disclose the test results of athletes using performance-enhancing drugs. I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
