20 Things You Should Know About My Best Friends

Nothing and no one can ever explain how much my best friends mean to me. They're like the siblings I never had, each with their own unique personality but all with similar characteristics. It's what makes us so close.

I cannot imagine my life without my best friends and I hope I never have to. It would mean the world to me if we stick together until the end because they're basically my extended family. I always feel like I fit in when I'm with them.

1. They’re very good at cheering me up.

Whether it was a bad test grade or a devastating heartbreak, they've always been the first people I turned to. In return, they cheered me up with encouraging words and, of course, lots of food.

2. They’re pretty smart.

Many times when I needed help in some of my worst subjects, like chemistry, they've always made time to explain to me what was going on and helped me get a better grade in that class.

3. They understand me better than my own parents.

One of the best things about my friends is that they don't judge me. They understand my crazy and dramatic personality and put up with it.

4. We can talk endlessly about absolutely nothing.

When we're bored, we can talk hours about the most random things and still not get tired of each other. It just shows how much we have in common and understand each other.

5. There is no awkwardness.

We can sit in silence, staring at nothing and it will never get awkward like it does with others. We're so close with each other that we're never awkward.

6. Our weird conversations

I can say the craziest things, and they would reply with equally crazy things. No hard feelings and no judgmental looks here. We just playfully banter with each other. Anyone who listens to our conversations would probably assume we're lunatics.

7. Dealing with emotions

If I cry, they will be there for me, no awkward patting on the back involved. They're more or less my counselor but in a more approachable way.

8. I can talk to them about anything.

Even with my parents, I feel uncomfortable talking about some things. With my best friends, however, I can talk about anything without feeling shy or uncomfortable.

9. We can already guess each other's responses.

When I'm about to ask a question, I already know what they're going to say beforehand. Same goes for them. We spend so much time talking with each other, whether in person or through Snapchat, that we already know all their responses. It's sometimes hilarious when we have the same response to something.

10. We all have something in common.

Two of the biggest things we all have in common are our crazy personalities and our love of food. We're accustomed to each other's craziness and we all take each other's food. We also have terrible humor.

11. We make fun of each other but in a playful way.

We always make fun of each other and joke about it but none of us feel bad or bullied. It's just playful jibes at each other that is not offensive and we all laugh about it, even the person subjected to those jibes.

12. They all know what I like most.

Since they've heard me rant about the things I like, and I hear the same from them, they can guess what I'm about to talk about before I even say it. Whether it's Harry Potter or Shawn Mendes, they are very used to me talking about those things. I know a lot about them too like how my friend loves unicorns and another is a fan of BTS and art.

13. We never laugh when one of us is emotionally distraught.

While we may cheer each other up with silly jokes and actions, no one would laugh at the other's pain. We understand what they're going through and help them as best as we can instead of ignoring or laughing at them.

14. We all want to live together.

We always discuss our plans to live together during college and after we graduate. We always joke about what each of us would do when we live together. We know each other's habits so well.

15. We joke about how we'll marry each other.

Most of the time, we're say, "If we don't get married by 30, we'll marry each other." And then we'll try and decide who will marry who.

16. We make plans to go on a cruise.

My friends and I talk about how, after graduating, we all should go on a cruise to to the Bahamas as our big break from our "busy" lives.

17. We can spend time with each other for a long time.

Generally, we fall asleep pretty early during sleepovers but with each other, we can probably go all night and well into the morning without passing out.

18. Our horrible inside jokes

We make inside jokes about the silliest things and, of course, they are pretty weird and people just stare at us when we joke.

19. We always want to go out but it rarely works out.

Whenever we make plans to hangout, it's generally canceled last minute because we're absolutely horrible with planning. Whether it's the timing or place, we can never agree on it.

20. We all love each other no matter what.

Even though we fight sometimes or get upset with each other over something, it never lasts for long. Eventually, we forgive each other and we go back to how it was before and get closer than ever.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots.
