The Truth About Showers

Showering. A mundane part of our daily routine that we often fail to appreciate. The truth is, some of the best things happen while in the shower. Famous authors, singers, philosophers and the like have come up with some of their best work and ideas in the shower. Showers are simply magical.

Making sure that the water temperature is just right, we slip off our towels and step under the spout, chilly and naked. Finally, the warmth of the water spreads across your entire body and you close your eyes only to find yourself in shower land.

Stuck in shower land, you're safe and alone. Safe and alone, finally able to take a break from your exciting and busy life, finally taking in the chance to breathe and think. Thoughts flood your mind. Either in dream land or intense thought and contemplation, you find your niche in the shower.

Only able to hear the sound of your own thoughts and the soft flow of water that streams down your body, the shower becomes your domain. And the best part of it is, you never have to leave. If you want, you can even sit down on the floor and let the water do the talking.

Unable to hear your teachers, parents, or friends nagging you about decisions, plans and work, you can finally think for yourself. When will I study for that test? Should I take the job? Should I go out with my friends tonight or stay in and work?

Questions flood your mind like the water that raced down your body and now floods the shower floor and you are finally able to make a decision. Not because you are having trouble making a decision but because you are finally able to think and breathe. You are finally in the shower.

Often, we take normal parts of our daily routine for granted, racing through them, getting them over with, and moving on to the next. It is important to stop and remember what we can do with these daily parts of our day. What we can do in the shower. What we can accomplish. What we can finally think about and decide on. It is important to relish the shower.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
