The Single Girl's Guide To Valentine's Day

Girl, treat yourself.

We're approaching the most love-filled day of the year. During a time when we're surrounded by hearts, candy, and the ever-daunting idea of love, when you're single, it's incredibly easy to feel alone. While all of your friends are planning dates, pondering gifts, and getting more excited by the second, being the single friend doesn't leave you with much. Do you go out alone? Do you stay in and binge-watch Netflix? Do you dare third-wheel? (Even if your BFF offered, do you really think she wants you to go on her V-Day date?)

Fear not, single ladies. Being alone on Valentine's Day doesn't have to be the end of the world for you. Here's some pretty clever solutions to make the single girl's Valentine's Day as sweet as can be.

1. Plan a Galentine's Day event

If you're single on Valentine's Day, chances are you have family, friends, or sorority sisters who are, as well. Make the day a girls' day for all of you. Go shopping, go out to dinner as a group, plan a spa day, or have a movie night in your PJs. Whatever it may be, hang out with your girls.

2. Make Valentine's Day gifts for your friends

Just because you don't have a boo doesn't mean that you can't spread the love. Take the time to make cards or buy candy for your friends. They'll love that you thought of them, and you'll feel good about doing something nice.

3. Get your hair/nails done

When you look good, you feel good. Treating yourself and getting your hair or nails (or both!) done is a great way to make yourself feel and look your best for Valentine's Day. And it's always a good idea to look good for yourself, and not anybody else.

4. Go shopping

When in doubt, buy an outfit. There's nothing that a little shopping spree can't cure, and that includes sadness over being single on V-Day.

5. Do not (I repeat, DO NOT) text your ex

I know, it's tempting to give in and text him a simple, "Hey!" when you're sad, alone, and convinced you'll be that way forever. But, I promise you that you will not be that way forever, and texting him will only lead to problems in the end. Put the phone down and pick up the wine and chocolate instead, girl.

6. Remember your worth

You slay, queen! Remember that as you're surrounded by hearts and flowers. You rock, and your Prince Charming is out there. Until you find him, though, don't forget how great you are. Love does not define you or measure your worth.

You're amazing, with or without a bae this V-Day.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
