Are you a movie buff? No? Well after you check out this short film director you will be... so without further ado... LIGHTS, CAMERA, MIMI!
Miriam "Mimi" Ridout is a lot of things, a daughter to Elizabeth and Marty, sister to Madeline and Eddie, rising freshman at AMDA LA, member of an elite girl squad, but most importantly...an actress and short film director that you need to check out ASAP.
I'll admit, I am a little biased since I know this talented girl personally but don't let that discredit my statement that she will be your next J. Blakeson. And if you don't know who J. Blakeson is, he is the incredibly talented director of The 5th Wave.
Mimi has two short films under her belt, Those Unseen and Infected and let me tell you that any movie buff that watches these short films and says that they don't scream potential is a flat out liar and you need to cut them off. Both films fall under the Science Fiction Genre, as that is Mimi's personal favorite. She mentioned to me in a small interview that she always has a passion for horror and supernatural films because they've always kept her on her toes, a feeling she loves and wants to provoke in others when watching her films.
Her most recent short film out of the two, Those Unseen, is a chilling super natural tale of Arden, a high school girl who also happens to be a Medium, that is approached by a strange girl hoping to find her deceased brother. There is only one problem...Arden doesn't know how to summon ghosts.
In her short films, Mimi casts her friends and family as her co stars to show case their talent as well as her own as an actress. Each of her cast members has their own unique charm and they prove that throughout the film. My personal favorite scene from this short film is when Arden is attempting to explain to her mesmerized best friend exactly what a medium is. The scene is difficult to film for amateur film makers because it is filmed in a public place and you are constantly susceptible to extraneous variables but I have to say Mimi pulled it off perfectly.
I could go on for hours about Mimi and her short films but she was kind enough to let me include her film in this article and I think you should just check it out for yourself. So, settle in, grab your popcorn, its time to see...
