The 7 Deadly Guilty Pleasures We're All Guilty Of Entertaining

While the "seven deadly sins" definitely should be taken seriously, some of life's rules about "guilty" pleasures shouldn't.

There are things the world wants to tell is is "wrong" or "irresponsible." But in reality, some of these things really are completely innocent and shouldn't be frowned upon (if done in moderation). Sometimes, we all just need to let loose and not do what we're supposed to.

1. Taking a day off from class

We could all use a break from our 8 a.m. Use your absences wisely, and have no shame when you take "a personal day" and give yourself a break.

2. Go on an unplanned vacation

Better yet, skip the whole week! Even though you probably feel like you don't have the time, money or set travel plans in line, sometimes a little getaway can be good for the soul. Being spontaneous is always a good idea.

3. Binge eat junk food

The happiest times are those that are spent eating the food you love best. The guilty pleasures of pizza, ice cream, and potato chips are just too irresistible to pass up sometimes. It's a shame we're "supposed" to feel guilty after we partake in deliciousness. Every once in awhile, eating your heart out over all the things you know you shouldn't is definitely okay in my book.

4. Do nothing but Netflix

Every time I go on an all-day Netflix marathon I always feel a little bad, or like I've wasted the whole day. But who can blame me for just HAVING to know the next crazy thing Michael Scott is going to do? Whenever you tell yourself, "Okay, just ONE episode," you might as well just go ahead and accept your fate that that's just not happening. Don't feel bad when you glance at the clock and somehow eight hours has passed, and you realize the only time you have moved is to get more popcorn. Time flies when you're having fun right?

5. Treat yourself with the money you don't have

They say retail therapy is a real thing. But so is buyer's remorse. I have a major shopping problem, I just can't say no. (The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem, right?) When you start to feel a little guilty spending the week's paycheck that's supposed to go towards groceries and gas on those to die for shoes you "stumbled upon," just remember you probably deserved it.

6. Turning your phone off

Sometimes, you just have to shut out the outside world. It's okay to put the phone on "Do Not Disturb" and throw it in a drawer for the day.

7. Procrastinate

Putting off something I know I need to get done is actually not common for me. So, the rare times I choose to procrastinate, I always end up mad at myself and feeling guilty. But sometimes, it just happens. Besides, procrastinate just means you wait until the last minute to do something, it's not bailing on your responsibilities and just not doing it at all. (At least that's what I tell myself to make me feel better).

The point is, we're all human and need to do what we want for ourselves every once in awhile. Even if society tells you that you shouldn't do these things, remember that all rules we're made to broken sometimes. :)

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
