The Real War on Christmas

Is November to early to listen to Christmas music?

The Real War on Christmas

I have heard about the War on Christmas, but I beg to differ that that is the biggest issue here. Halloween was a few days ago and kids are on a sugar high, pumpkins are becoming misshapen, and Christmas tree displays are popping up everywhere, but I love it. There is nothing wrong with going straight from listening to 'This is Halloween' to 'Have a Holly Jolly Christmas'. I love Thanksgiving. I love sitting with my family, thinking about everything I am grateful for, and eating leftover turkey and cranberry sandwiches for the next week. If there were more then a few church hymns about Thanksgiving, I would probably listen to them, but there's not. For me, the rest of the year is all one big holiday. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are all one big party. By looking at Christmas deals, listening to Michael Buble, and watching cheesy Hallmark movies I am not forgetting about Thanksgiving. I think about everything I am grateful for . I think about everything that has been done for me. There is nothing wrong with celebrating all three holidays together. I do have a problem with Black Friday sales starting at six on Thanksgiving, but that's another rant all together. So don't judge me for having Christmas music playing while I am at work. Don't give me and my roommates weird looks because we have a Christmas tree up. In college you leave before December is really even half way over, and so you have to start early to get a whole month of Christmas in. By celebrating Christmas I do not forget about Thanksgiving. I won't pressure you into setting up your tree, or going to look at the Christmas candy, or watching the Santa Clause movies. But I don't want you to think that I am skipping a holiday. I can appreciate Thanksgiving and Christmas without forgetting about the other. This time of the year isn't about the music, movies, holidays, decorations, or shopping deals. It is about spending time with family. It is about being thankful for what we have and going to those who don't have it. It is about showing those we care about that we appreciate them, even though we should do it year round. The music I listen to doesn't change any of that. So next time you hear someone listening to a good, or bad, Christmas song, just remember that it doesn't mean they don't care about Thanksgiving, it only means they want to feel the Christmas spirit. Probably because this is the happiest time of year. Give back, be thankful, and drink lots of apple cider and hot chocolate. Have a good Thanksgiving, and a very merry Christmas.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
