Just yesterday, I went to see Two Door Cinema Club in concert at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. I have been wanting to go to this concert since I found out about it a while ago, and I finally bought the tickets three days before the concert on Tuesday. I was able to go with my boyfriend, who actually never listened to them until I told him about the band. Nevertheless, the concert was a load of fun, and it was definitely the best concert I have been to so far. They were so alive, the crowd was so alive, and I felt alive, too. I had just gotten two shots that morning, both my arms were sore, the girl next to me kept bumping into my arms, and I felt like dying, I was still had the greatest time.
Although I keep saying that it was the best concert I’ve been to (and now that I think about it, I always say that after every concert), I enjoy all concerts. You could take me to any concert, any type of music, any artist, and there’s no doubt that I would probably enjoy it. And I know for a fact that I am not the only person that feels like this.
I was doing some research into concerts not too long ago and came across a research done by two psychologists a research by two psychologists, Van Boven and Gilovich, where they found that people are overall “happier” when they spend money on an experience rather than a material purchase. I know that this is true for me and a lot of people that I know, too. Granted that not everyone obviously thinks like this, but I would rather waste my money on a small concert than buying a bunch of new records. Experience over material is something I will always personally choose only because of the lively memories I get to make, whereas something materialistic will only make me happy for about two seconds.
The experience you get when going to a concert is a different feeling each time you go to one. Different concerts have different atmospheres that’s created by all the individuals attending that one concert. All the people attending are there for the exact same reason you are, and you all just want to have a good time. Particularly for myself, I especially love going with my boyfriend. Even if one of us don’t listen to the artist, if one of us invites the other, we still go because the experience we get to have with each other. It is always the best going to something you enjoy with people you like being around. You always create the best memories with the best people in your life.
That’s the point of concerts. They bring people from all the spectrums together, and they concert people. If you haven’t been to one, I suggest that you do. And I suggest that you pick some great friends to go with. I’m telling you now that there’s just something exhilarating about them.
