My Thoughts On Elijah's Red Door In The Originals

An interesting concept goes deeper than you think

When it comes to TV shows there are a lot of interesting concepts that stand out to me. "The Originals" is a show that is about vampires, witches and werewolves and so it is a little bit harder to be relatable. My favorite characters on the show were always Klaus and Elijah Mikaelson. Elijah has been a favorite of mine because I like how noble and dapper his character was. He was the original vampire that can always be found in a suit. His main goal was to fight for his family and witness Klaus' redemption because he never wanted to give up on his brother.

Elijah had moments but for the most part, he seemed too good to be true with his nobility and kindness. What made his character even the more fascinating was when they lost him and had to enter his mind to retrieve him. In his mind was a white corridor with white doors all leading to his memories and the way they could bring him back as if they found the core memory. In the corridor, there is a red door that has his darkest moments which became his core memory. This is a shock to his love interest, Hayley, because the memory that stuck with him and defined him wasn't a good one.

This got me thinking about his character more and it proved that even the kindest or most noble person can have the most demons. Elijah's red door becomes a symbol of his demons that he hides in the back of his mind. Behind there is anything bad that has happened to him or mistakes he has made. It was the monster side of him that no one saw because he deeply regretted it. It was the time he was first turned into a vampire and wasn't the person he knew himself to be.

Klaus even mentions to Hayley who was shocked by the red door that despite his past he is the kindest sibling of them all and ultimately good. Plus, everyone in that family included Hayley has done bad things and have become monsters at one point, the difference with Elijah is he hid that part of him so well that it was a shock to think otherwise (which sounds like Hayley, no wonder why they were perfect for each other).

To take this moment deeper, it made me think that everyone has their red door. Everyone's brain has a red door where they hide their mistakes or the bad things they have been through, so they can try to move on. Even the people who seem to be the most stable have demons they hide. Everyone has pain and sadness that they keep locked away and throw away the key, wishing that they will never have to experience it again.

When Elijah had to open his red door after he lost his memory it was hard and that episode where all the pain rushes to him at once is heartbreaking. Elijah seems as tough as stone and so incredibly noble but this scene makes you see his human side and the side that is in such pain.

Watching "The Originals" is like living in a dreamland of adventure and sitting at the edge of your seat. But there are moments that are relatable which is what adds to the greatness of the show. "The Originals" is one of those shows that when you think about it, it is deep and can be relatable like Elijah's red door. Everyone has their own version of a red door and therefore every human is a mystery.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
