If you grew up in the state that comes in at number fifty in nearly every national ranking, you know how easy it is and how often people underscore our home state.

There are few things to do, and boredom can easily creep up on you if you call the "Birthplace of America's Music" home. However, there are hidden treasures in Mississippi that even us natives sometimes forget about or take advantage of.

So, the next time you find yourself on the hunt for an adventure, don't count out the good ole 'Sip.

1. Grand Canyon of Mississippi

Yes! Mississippi has a Grand Canyon! Well, sort of.

In Morgantown, MS, there is a place locals call Red Bluff, and although it pales in comparison to the actual Grand Canyon, it is still a remarkable sight with an awesome view. It has been in the making for years upon years due to the erosion of the Pearl River, but it is a definite "must see" in Mississippi.

2. Old Country Store in Lorman, MS

Traveling through on HWY 61, it's a must to stop by!

3. Windsor Ruins

After you fill up on sweet tea, greens, and chicken, keep trekking on over to the close by Windsor Ruins. Near Port Gibson, MS stands 23 Corinthian columns, the remains from a burned down Greek mansion in the mid to late 1800s.

Read about the rich history, snap some pics, and stand in pure amazement of one of Mississippi's rare wonders.

4. Ride the Natchez Trace

Recently, my friends and I found ourselves riding the Trace around sunset , and it was one of the most beautiful sights!

While the speed limit is a slow 55, the scenery is completely worth it. Roll your windows down, turn up the music, and bring your camera because you'll want to remember your jaunt down the Natchez Trace featuring a gorgeous Mississippi sunset.

5. The Coast

Mississippi is often overlooked when it comes to its shoreline, but the gulf coast is packed with tons of adventurous, fun in the sun activities !

Take the ferry to Ship Island for the day and lounge on the beach under your umbrella, grab a rod and reel and catch dinner, or even break out the bucket and flashlight for a late night crab hunt. Enjoy that feeling of sun on your back and sand under your feet at the MS coast!

Mississippi is an overlooked, under-credited gem, and the possibilities are endless here when boredom strikes!

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
