Winter break is the light at the end of a dark fall semester tunnel. It means snuggly days in your PJs, with your pets, and endless Netflix. It also means free laundry and lots of homemade food. Two things a starving, broke college student dreams about during the semester.
When you’re in high school the little things, you miss while at school seem trivial but home is truly where the heart is. Nothing can replace those little perks of home. In my almost three years of college, I have come to appreciate the little perks of being home.
Sure, seeing old classmates can be awkward and uncomfortable but nothing beats the feeling of destressing at home after a hectic semester. It’s the little things like your mom offering to do your laundry or your dad making you laugh, and paling around with your siblings.
The comforts of family and home just cannot be topped. It's walking into the house and smelling your favorite meal cooking. And those fun family traditions you hated as a child but now cherish more than anything in the whole world. Or just talking to your parents and laughing at memories, sharing stories.
Decorating your family Christmas tree, baking cookies, and just enjoying the time your spending with family can cure any leftover finals anxiety. And nothing beats that first hug you get from your childhood best friend after a semester of facetime calls and I'll see you soons.
Winter break offers a small time where you can cherish your family without growing tired of them. Summer is great but three months home makes you miss school and your freedom. While the short month makes you want to curl into your bed and stay awhile.
There is something about being home for the holidays after being away that adds a little magic to life. Enjoy your little moments while they last. Make sure to hug your family and home friends extra tight this holiday season. You never know when a little moment could lead to a big memory.
