The Importance of a Morning Routine in my Life

Waking up early is no easy task. We all probably will have to get up early in the morning at some point in our lives for school, a job, and internship, or to go to the gym. However, others may not have those obligations and would like to start their day off earlier. Whatever the reason may be, getting into a healthy morning routine could possibly help tremendously with your mental, physical, and spiritual health as well.

For myself personally, I find that it is difficult for me to find the motivation to initially get myself out of bed. The blankets are so warm, I am relaxed, my breathing and heart rate are slowed, and I just want to close my eyes for another few minutes. At this point, I have accepted that I can't lay in bed all day so I might as well just get up and get the day going. So once I am finally over that hunch, the day then becomes 10 times easier. With that said, here is my typical morning routine:

1. Washing Your Face

This is such a great way to start the morning. When I wash my face, it symbolizes a new day to me. I am washing away all of the impurities from yesterday and starting fresh. It's also great for your skin so why not!

2. Drinking Water and Making Coffee or Tea

Lately I have been trying to drink more water in my daily life, and a glass first thing in the morning can be very beneficial to your body. Also, I am a huge lover of coffee and tea, so these drinks tend to wake my mind up and make me feel ready to tackle the day ahead of me. If you aren't a fan of coffee or tea, just substitute your favorite morning drink in place of those!

3. Putting on Some Music

This is a big one for me. One of the most vital parts of my morning is feeling some positive vibes, and music plays a huge role in that for me. My go to music genre for the morning tends to be spiritually based or songs that have a positive message in them. This changes the headspace that I want to be in for the day, and I can feel the music flowing through my body. I love being able to connect with the world in this way.

4. Prayer and Meditation

I know this one can be more difficult. These two concepts took me a long time to grasp and I am still in the process of figuring them out, but I want to point out various ways of going about this because my life has changed tremendously from doing so. To me, prayer isn't folding my hands together and actually saying a prayer out loud. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with that method, I just found that it doesn't work for me personally. For me, it's letting go mentally of things I won't have control over during the day and keeping that positive mindset. Prayer to me is letting the universe do it's thing and trusting in that. Mediation kind of goes along with this, but my favorite thing to do is be immersed in nature while doing so. I know this might not always be convenient, but when I have the time I try to do that in any way I can.

So this is roughly my morning routine. Some days are harder than others so I don't do everything I just mentioned, but I always try to do at least one of these things to start my day off. I have just found that my mornings tend to be more positive now, and my days flow better than they ever have before. I hope this helps anyone out there who may be struggling. You are not alone and you can do this.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
