Nothing prepares you for your first year of college--the new experiences, the new friends, the roller coaster of emotions. High school was a joke compared to college. The cast of "How I Met Your Mother" explains this thrilling first year of college through a series of gifs.

Walking into class on the first day and not recognizing a single person.

Looking through the syllabus and realizing your professor does not assign homework.

Your friends are going out, but you're broke as f*ck.

When it's 11:58 p.m. and you remember you have an assignment due at 11:59 p.m.

Looking at your phone and having 10 missed calls from your mother.

When your professor assigns a reading the same day of a test.

When the professor asks why you didn't do the readings.

When you have three projects, five blog posts, two books, and a 10-page research paper all due this week.

"Okay class, your midterm is next week."

When you make eye contact with the cute guy who sits next to you.

Realizing you haven't done laundry in weeks.

Making the educated move to stay in on a Friday night to catch up on work.

Reading the three words that mean the most to you: Class Is Cancelled.

Having that incredible bond with your college BFF.

When your class crush likes your selfie.

Organic chemistry?!?

Looking forward to that one lecture class where you don't have to do anything.

That feeling during finals week when people are loud in the library.

Trying to find the best bars in town...

...and then finally getting with the person you had your eye on all semester.

When you have no idea how to balance your academic life and social life.

Getting a good grade on a test you did not study for.

And walking out of class for the last time has never felt so good.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
