The first day of high school can be super exciting. You buy all new clothes, get a new back pack, and then you get to school and you realize something. This is not what I expected. It's four years of making memories, sometimes good and sometimes even bad. Once you graduate you won't miss it, but you will laugh when you look back! So Freshmen listen up! Here's what to expect! And graduates, crack open a cold one and laugh with me.

1. Waking up and realizing that this is real life and you are now officially a high school student.

You are waking up to go face the most interesting four years of your life. You take a risk of getting beat up by a Senior, but wakey wakey!

2. Arriving at school and realizing that this place is a jungle and way larger than you expected.

Okay, but seriously? Why do you guys need one floor for just the math classes!?

3. Trying to push your way through the crowd to get to your first class.

Don't worry, eventually you just get numb to fighting your way through extremely crowded hallways!

4. Being late to your first class in a room full of people that you don't know and they are all staring at you

Just stare straight ahead and eventually they will look away. Or you could start a fight right here in the middle of class, but then you'll be known as the bad kid.

5. Realizing that you are in the wrong class with these people that are staring at you!

Just a fake a sickness! If you slip out now they will never remember it! Or you might be remembered as the student that was in the wrong class for the next four years.

6. Trying to focus on all your classes but your mind is really just on lunch.

But I am warning you, high school food is no better than middle school food! You have been warned!

7. Finding out that you have lunch period with your best friends.

Lunch period is a war zone. You can't just sit with anyone because I swear lunch tables are actually cults. It's a miracle if you have a lunch period with your best friends, be thankful.

8. Having to play icebreakers in every class but you're too cool for this.

And after about four classes, yes. I don't answer stupid questions. And how many times can I share "five unique facts" about myself?!

9. Leaving school and realizing this is your life for the next years.

You will make mistakes, you'll go out with the wrong people. Classes will be hard and days will be long. It may feel like it lasts an eternity but I promise it goes by in the blink of an eye. So enjoy it while you can because college is a whole different story.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
