Writing. It is an art learned at a very young age, no matter what country you are from. Gripping a pencil. Drawing letters. Forming words. Stringing out sentences. This essential life skill is one of the only skills in your lifetime that has a personality of its own.
In this rapidly advancing technological society, the art of handwriting seems to be fading fast. The days of using cursive appear to be numbered. Even the signatures we use to sign legal documents and checks appear to stray from this to something like this.
Atrocious signatures and jumbled handwriting aren't just a reflection of the writer, but all of their mentors as well. Teachers often neglect students by not helping them correct their atrocious handwriting at an early age, thus allowing a writer to form bad habits. What could have been legible becomes reduced to a chalky slop.
Laziness on both the writer and teacher makes using typed font the more intriguing for the messy writer. With a press of a button, a flawless letter is created, with the ability to be repeatedly recreated infinitely. With this, however, the unique loops; swoops; and crosses; unique to each person, are lost.
Especially with the invention of the computer and email correspondence, it wouldn't be a shock if writing with a pen on paper will be replaced entirely by electronic type. Personally, I enjoy receiving handwritten letters and notes much more than typed ones. There's a human connection behind the words written by hand, and it means slightly more that a person devoted time towards getting their thoughts on paper.
