The Age Of Entitlement

Are you a part of the entitled generation?

The Age Of Entitlement

When I was growing up, my parents and every other adult I encountered said I was mature for my age because I had manners. I said please, thank you, yes sir, no sir, yes ma’am, and no ma’am. That still holds true today, which needless to say could be considered a disgrace. The fact that having basic manners is seen as being mature and different from the social norm of young people is appalling. My generation, and the next generation are filled with entitled, selfish, and narcissistic people. This leads to multiple issues including lack of communication skills, a decrease in work ethic, and a rise in issue with authority.

My generation, and I use the term loosely, has become arrogant and ignorant. Granted, it isn’t all the fault of the children. It is an issue of parenting. Parents who don’t care enough or don’t have time to teach their kids what right and wrong is, and how authority works are allowing their kids to go against the natural order of how things work. It isn’t about race; it isn’t about economic or social standing. It is simply about how people raise their children.

These children have thrown away the ideals of civil society and brought in their false ideals of what they call “justice”. Defending convicted felons and others who have wronged society because it goes against actual justice. This entitled mentality of the youth in this nation is going to cause a civil war, figuratively or literally.

This mentality allows the youth of today to go against the authoritative figures because if the authoritative figures take a stand against them, the youth say that they feel “unsafe” and “purposely targeted,” while they enforce the double standard by attacking the authority. This entitled manner is what is starting all the protests about “wrongful deaths." If it was a wrongful death, I could see why, but it wasn’t. Whoever resists arrest, is a convicted felon, and threatens the lives of officers and citizens is not the victim of wrongful death. They are a victim of their own self entitled arrogance and stupidity.

Parents, raise your kids right. Make sure they know that police are not out to kill them, but to make them safe. Make sure that they know that authority is not the issue, but false justice and immortalizing sex offenders, convicted felons, and terrorists is. And kids, or anybody really, don’t resist. If you don’t resist, there won’t be a problem. Cooperation and lack of resistance won’t get you killed. Threatening and resisting will escalate the situation. Be smart.

People are not entitled to anything. If you want your rights known, learn about them. If you want something, earn it. Life will not hand you what you want. If you want it, work for it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
