I’d consider myself to be an old soul. People that are old souls like me probably have a lot of the same troubles that I do. Life can be hard for old souls for many reasons. One of the main reasons is that they just don’t fit in. I know I don’t fit in with almost anyone from my generation. Old souls like me have different values at times and sometimes different tastes in things like movies, films, and fashion. Here are the 9 ways that life is hard for an old soul.

1. Dating

Dating is the worst because we don't do hookups or to be with somebody just to say we have somebody. We seek romance that will last a lifetime, and the thought of being with somebody that won't be with us for the long hall is terrifying. We want our soul-mate and won't settle for anything less.

2. References

We talk about old bands, movies, TV shows, and clothes, but nobody our age gets us and gives us weird looks when somebody 2x our age will think it's hilarious and make a reference back to us.

3. Clothes

We like to look for expensive looking clothes that came out of the decade we love, like for me, you'd find me in 60's Mod dresses, a hippie look outside of school, or a 1950's look most likely because 20's clothes are hard to find.

4. Family.

We usually tend to put family first and value traditions.

5. Entertainment

You might find that old souls are attracted to period pieces in either literature, shows, or movies. We also like certain authors from certain time periods as well, like Jane Austen or Fitzgerald.

6. Music.

Most people we love are either old or dying and we can't always relate to what is happening with music today, like I wouldn't know rap. I drive blasting my 60's music.

7. Social events are awkward at times with people your own age.

8. Creativity.

It's no secret that old souls are creative. We draw, write, play instruments, and/or dance along with other creative hobbies or passions that people don't understand.

9. We follow our heart and gut.

We speak our mind and show what is in our heart and gut, even if we stand alone.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
