The 8 Emotional Stages Of Formal Season

Every emotional crisis a girl will go through when formal season is upon us.

What is the greatest time of year, you ask? Formal season. It gives you an excuse to finally whip out that dress you bought five months ago –hesitantly to see if it still fits– and get dressed up with your best friends. However, this may just be the worst time of year as well. Every girl in the house will be running ramped in search of a date, your stress acne will be at its peak, and the stakes will be set at an all-time high.

Amongst this chaos, a girl will feel every emotion possible in a matter of hours. That's right! HOURS. Being a girl who can relate, I have placed these emotions into eight stages that can help explain exactly what they are feeling.

1. Excitement

The formal dates have just been announced and it's only weeks away. You and your girlfriends will jump around in excitement and get giddy about making the perfect plans.

2. Panic

New Girl Panic

In this moment, you realize that there are only 50 boys and about 300 girls. Is it acceptable to attend dateless?

3. More panic

Emma Stone More Panic

You absolutely cannot show up to formal wearing a dress that everyone has already seen you in. However, the weeks ahead are booked with exams. You better have some good wifi and start hitting up Lulu's FAST.

4. Denial

Office Denial

At this point, you have come to terms with the facts that boys don't like you and you have no money for a dress. You have officially decided you will try again next year.

5. Extreme sadness

All of your best friends have found a date without you. The mental images of yourself sitting at home in an empty room, watching Snap Stories of your friends dancing their butts off, begin to take over your mind.

6. Recuperation

BUT, WAIT! One of your girlfriends magically finds you a date. Have you ever met him? No. Are you still going to go? Yes.

7. Stress

Stress

Yay! You found a date. But you suddenly realize that you spent the last four days crying rather than planning for this thing. You better start raiding some closets.


8. Relieved excitement

Relieved Excitement

You have found a dress, a date, and everything is planned. All you have to do now is have the time of your life. (Phew!)
