Actually, Thanksgiving Food Is Overrated

Thanksgiving is great, but turkey is wildly overrated.

Actually, Thanksgiving Food Is Overrated

Thanksgiving is quickly approaching, and for most of us that means getting to go home, spending time with friends and loved ones, eating a home cooked meal, and just relaxing before the end of fall semester and the start of finals.

While I am excited about all of this, there's just a few things I'm simply not looking forward to this Thanksgiving: the food. You know, the traditional oven baked turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, pie, and all other side dishes that don't really need to happen, but they do. I wouldn't say I despise Thanksgiving food, I'm just not very fond of it.

Yes, I am aware my opinion is unpopular, but just bare with me!

The Turkey.

The turkey is the centerpiece of every Thanksgiving dinner. I don't have a problem with turkey; just the way it's cooked. Three to five hours just for it to come out of the oven dry? It's bad enough that the aroma of the roasting turkey is tantalizing, but for it to come out dry is just heart breaking.

Some years it turns out better than before, but other times it's just disappointing. The only time turkey is done right is when fried; it's much juicier and takes a fraction of the time.

The Stuffing.

First of all, the word stuffing has the equivalency of the word moist... I hate the word moist. This just seems like a big combination of celery bread and chicken broth. Perhaps a more flattering name will give this side dish the boost it deserves.

The Pie.

In the eight years I've lived in the states, I have come to realize that pie is not a worthy dessert. Sure, apple pie is the most American thing close to fries, but it's just a sad excuse for a dessert.

No one ever finishes it, so you end up with a bunch of leftover pie. I don't care if it's apple, pumpkin or the million different pies that exist out there. It's just not a dessert. I prefer a nice cobbler.

I don't consider myself a picky eater, just simply a foodie who's tired of Thanksgiving food. When it comes to Thanksgiving food, the end result never matches the build-up. A turkey belongs on a sandwich; bread and celery just doesn't cut it. Pie isn't a real dessert. I'd much rather eat anything else for Thanksgiving dinner than have five days worth of leftovers.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
