Dear Band Directors,
Some days we doubted your decisions, but you’ve always proved they were for the better of the band. Other days we got tired of your pun filled jokes and you trying to fit in with the “cool kids,” but they made for some memories we will never forget. So thank you for making band an interesting experience, to say the least. We have all grown close over the past couple of years, but of course not without the many embarrassing moments we all had to experience along the way. Though our journey as a Mighty Marching Knight is about to come to an end, none of us are quite ready to say goodbye.
I remember walking into rookie camp freshmen year and immediately seeing the LSU Tiger Flatbill cap. Geaux Tigers! Though how little did I know that was only the beginning of it. Sophomore year at band camp he went all out to cheer on the LSU Tigers. I’m talking custom made purple and gold New Balances, LSU Tiger Nike basketball shorts, gold “Geaux Tigers” shirt, and of course his famous flatbill LSU Tiger cap. It didn’t stop there. For Saturday practices and future band camps this outfit was worn every time. Now don’t get me wrong here-- I’m not complaining. I’m a huge LSU Tigers fan myself so it was pretty incredible to have a band director in Georgia cheer on LSU and not UGA for once.
Now lets throw it back to the band softball games. What an experience those were! You would think it’s common sense on how to hold a baseball bat but apparently not. I guess some people just think holding the wider end and hitting with the handle of it makes sense, but I’m not here to judge. Actually while we’re on the topic of hitting, let’s talk about how our band director hit more home runs than both teams points combined. Yes you heard that right. It was an embarrassing game for most of us. Especially when he out pitched us also. Apparently band kids aren’t very good at most things baseball related. We were able to walk on the field in unison and that’s really all that matters. Woohoo, go sportball!
At the end of the day you’ve taught us a lot, and you’ve put up with us for two to three years now. There are some decisions you made that I will just never understand and might question forever, but that’s for another time. Overall thank you though. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience in band, and I have loved every minute of it. You have prepared me well for the Golden Band, and as I will miss marching with you all next year, I cannot wait for this next step in my life. Thank you for an amazing senior show, and thank you for leading the Marching Knights to some victories over the years.
