“Wow that model is beautiful, I wish I looked like her.”
One thing that has yet to be fixed in this world is the negative body image the world sends to women. So often, women are expected to have the "perfect body."
Time and time again, you hear men criticizing women on how they should change their bodies to make these men happy and other women criticizing women to look skinnier in order to be beautiful. One of the biggest haters of natural beauty which sends the wrong body image to women everywhere is the media. The media criticizes celebrities and how they look thus forcing other women to reevaluate their lives. It uses Photoshop on models, it has diet pill and surgery commercials daily…
Let me break something down for everyone.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS THE PERFECT BODY.
People are striving for perfection and there is just no way that it is going to happen. At the grocery store you see magazines in line telling you how to get the “sexy beach body.” You get emails from stores showing off these perfect models with perfect hair and flawless skin. It is not real. I’ll repeat that one more time for everyone. It is not real.
There is one clothing company that has recognized this problem and works towards making everything REAL for their models. For that, this company is amazing. Aerie and their #aeriereal campaign will not allow retouching on their models. Every picture is 100 percent real, every woman is 100 percent real, and it is empowering.
You have stretch marks? It's fine. You have a scar? It’s fine. You have a muffin top? It's fine. You have nicely toned legs? It’s fine. These models do not get Photoshop, retouching, or blurring out of any kind. They get to show off their body in whatever shape or form it is. This campaign is all about loving your own body and embracing it. When you receive an email from Aerie or walk into the store, those are real women wearing that clothing. REAL WOMEN.
Aerie, I just want to say thank you for embracing this movement and empowering women everywhere. It is a breath of fresh air to walk into your store and just see normal models wearing the clothing I want to wear. I am not comparing myself to a retouched, fake, model. I get to just see what a true, beautiful woman looks like.
