To The Parents That Support Their Children Going Into A Different Career Field Than Them, Thank You
I promise, we appreciate it.
We live in a world right now that has thousands of possibilities for different career paths. From the arts to science, from language studies to accounting; the possibilities are endless. Following the path that will allow for the greatest amount of joy is crucial to maintaining one's mental health. Contrary to popular opinion, having the most amount of money/success does not equal the highest amount of happiness.
I am here to say, that if your child is pursuing a career that is not favorable to you - support them! Continue to have their best interest at heart, no matter what. Your child will thank you later for it. If your child has not verbally thanked you, they really do appreciate it.
Both of my parents are in the veterinary field and I am pursuing a career in writing and broadcasting. Having that support from them has made all the difference. I have made a complete 180 degree turn from their career path, and yet they believe I have made the best choice for myself. And if I did not, then they understand that I am adult and responsible for my own decisions. For me, working in the sciences would lead to a career full of regret and disdain. Having a career in the arts is what will make happy. I am so thankful I have parents that not only support my decision in a career but believe in my skills and abilities.
Having a passion, no matter what it is, is such a beautiful thing. Having a passion that is supported by the people who mean the most to you is even better. Thank you, parents, for understanding our passions and loving us for them. We have to live our truth, and our truth is following your passions.
I also want to address the people who are pursuing a certain career field without the approval of their parents; I am proud of you. It is tough to follow through with what you love when you have no support. Continue to stand up, continue to fight for what you love. You are doing great sweetie. Your dream should be YOUR dream, not your parents, your friend's or your significant other's; only yours. This is your future, not anybody else's.
Parents: keep supporting your children. I know that some of you that are in a field and have set your children up to go into the same exact thing. You cannot choose your family. Therefore, you cannot choose the personality, passions, and dreams of your children. If my parents expected me to become a veterinarian, they would be disappointed. Since they support my dreams, they are proud while I hit the goals that I want to hit. They might not know a ton about my field but yet they trust my intuition about it.
To the parents that support their children, no matter what; I sincerely thank you for helping raise the next generation in greatness. We truly appreciate your understanding and kindness.
