This is a letter to myself. So I'll start it like this: I don't like you.
It's got nothing to do with what you look like. It has to do with how you act, how you speak, how you present your emotions. You can be a real drama queen, and not always a lovable one. It's funny. You tend to overreact about the smallest things, but you sit back and let big things slide.
It's like you think you deserve to let big things take a back seat while you dwell on tiny issues that give you something to complain about. You try not to be negative, especially when it comes to the people you care about, but you can be so negative about yourself. Stop doing that.
You never invest in your own happiness. You second-guess yourself and wonder why good things pass you by, but it's you. You let things pass you by, you let opportunities pass because you're lazy. My goodness, you can really be lazy. Not just physically, but mentally. You always say "I'll do it soon" and then you never do.
If I met you at a party, I would find a way to get out of talking to you. You can be way too loud at times, and then too quiet at others. So I don't know how to read you. You are unreadable. You have so many things on your surface that do not make sense, but when you go deeper, it's another mystery.
At least try to meet your mind and soul halfway. Try to look for yourself, try to find yourself because I'm sure there's more to you, but you'll never know if you don't try.

Now that we got that out of the way, let me say: I totally get it when people think that cats can be jerks—because they certainly can be.
But, I think it's ridiculous that we always have to divide ourselves. I'm sick and tired of people constantly seeing it as "us against them." I think that we owe it to ourselves and our peers to not have to separate ourselves like that. People are already making everything political. Democrats this, Republicans that. White people this, X Minority that. I've seen this kind of separation for a long time, especially when it comes to being a cat person or a dog person. Why can't we just appreciate all animals?!
People that own a cat, or five, know that there is a good reason that people hate on cats. It's simply that cats will do whatever they want. You can call your little demon child as much as you want and he will ignore you until the time is convenient for him. (Also, I know that all kitties are not demon cats but there's a good amount of them).
Cats can be just as cuddly as dogs. Plus it's nice that you can do your thing and they can do their own thing and love on you at the end of the day, just like a significant other.
I think that people don't give cats a chance as much as they really ought to. They provide companionship just like a dog is able to. And if you're not a fan of going on walks or running, they don't require that kind of exercise. Just point the laser from the comfort of your own bed and allow them to go at it!
All cats do not deserve to have the stereotype that they're mean and hate everyone. Plus—I'll let you in on a secret—some of them actually like belly rubs. Crazy, right?
So, stop hating on cats just because you don't understand them. They deserve love just like pups do.

Do you know what I am tired of? People are bashing potatoes whether it is describing yourself looking like a "potato" or all these diets wanting to eliminate these starchy, balls of heaven out of our diets. Using cauliflower to replace mashed potatoes or making broccoli tots rather than tater tots. This isn't a hate speech against vegetables or making healthy food decisions, this is an appreciation towards the potatoes in our lives. I understand potatoes aren't the image of healthy living and you shouldn't eat only potatoes for the rest of your lives, but in my mind, we all should be more like potatoes. Hear me out.
Potatoes are grounded, literally.
They are the roots of the potato plant and are grown underground. No matter where we go in life, how successful we become, we should always remember our roots and where we come from. We shouldn't lose sight of who we truly are as we continue to grow as people. Being grounded is realizing that we are all potatoes human and that we are not perfect. We may have a few bumps on our skin, we may look different than the person next to us, and we may go down on different paths, but in the end, we are people. Humility will take you so far in life.
Do you realize the number of varieties of potatoes there are in this world? There are over 4,000 varieties of potatoes grown worldwide. That is a lot of mashed potatoes Whether you want russet, baby red, or sweet potatoes, there is a potato for you to love. Just like people. There are so many of us in the world, 7.6 billion people to be more accurate. We all come from different places, backgrounds, beliefs, and all have a unique story to share. So do potatoes, even though there are so many different types of potatoes, they turn out to make delicious meals and can bring people together. The sooner we appreciate the differences between people but also recognize our similarities, the sooner we all can sit around a table and enjoy each others company and a serving of potatoes.
Potatoes are game changers in history, whether in the United States or all over the world. Look up their history and see how they have shaped the world one delicious potato at a time. The Smithsonian talks about the global impact potatoes have made on our world, and the thing is, you can make a global impact too. Keep in mind that if potatoes can make a difference, you can make a difference in what you want to change.
It isn't just about the simple hardy potato that comes from the soil, the amazing thing about potatoes is that they can be turned into so many things. Potatoes can be tater tots, alcohol, be ammo in a potato gun, an electrical conductor, and so many other things that potato wants to be.
Potatoes are multitaskers, even though they don't have arms or legs.
Imagine all that you can become if you start to live like a potato. They are also so universal, you can eat potatoes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. You chow down some hash browns in the morning, have a nice sandwich on potato bread, enjoy a side dish of scalloped potatoes, and indulge in some sweet potato pie.
Who runs the world? Potatoes!
I'm not saying we all should end up becoming couch potatoes and veg out, but just like potatoes in your diet, everything in moderation. One day you want to change the world, awesome. The next day, you need to binge-watch Netflix and relax, not judgment. Just remember to be like a potato, and keep rolling on. When your best friend says they are a potato after looking at a picture of them, make sure to enlighten them on how awesome potatoes and they are.
Throughout the media in recent years trends of showing all body types, and more importantly, supporting all body types has been a common theme. There's a lot of back lash to this movement saying if you're obese it shouldn't necessarily be celebrated. However, I think that the most important aspect to a conversation concerning weight and obesity is loving yourself first. If you're not comfortable in your own skin, and if you don't love yourself and support yourself, you're not going to want to change yourself. Living in an online world where so often people get ridiculed for the things they post, it becomes agonizing to post something feeling good about yourself. Regardless of whether or not a person needs to lose weight, they should be able to be confident in where they stand right now. You don't know where they are in their journey, and it's not your place to tell them where they should be.
If a person is constantly living in self-hatred and surrounded by people negatively shaming their body as well, that hole is just going to continue to get deeper and deeper. Instead, supporting someone and surrounding them in positivity will help them climb out of that hole, feel comfortable with their current state so they can confidently find their place to make a change. It's also pointless to be putting people down on social media for what their body looks like unless you're perfectly educated on their health and diet, and live as a poster child for health yourself. Whether or not a person is healthy is a conversation between that person and their doctor, if someone reaches out to you directly for your opinion on their health, that is the only time it's fit for you to give your two cents. I'm not saying that someone living an unhealthy lifestyle shouldn't be aware of what the consequences will be for how they live, but as I said before, they'll find out their consequences from their doctor. You don't need to be commenting on their photos about it. Using positive language to encourage those around you, and to help them reach their goals is much more effective than leaving a negative remark.
This same problem can seen for every body type. People are constantly torn down for being too fat, too skinny, trying too hard, too wide, too lean, you name it. Whereas, when people are showered with positive comments the effect is more wide spread. To get in the mental state to be driven to make a change is a personal journey, regardless of what it is you're trying to change. Help guide the way, don't be an obstacle. There is no space for negativity on the road to a healthy lifestyle. Similarly, there is always room for improvement, so before you tear someone down, think of if it's really your place to talk. If someone you know is struggling, personally support them to a healthy lifestyle, instead of demanding or telling them what you think they need to do. Most importantly, if someone is feeling confident in their own skin, be proud of them, because after all, it is their life, and their decisions.
The smallest act of kindness could make the greatest impact.
It has become more common now to turn on the news, or scroll through social media and notice all of the violence and hate that is going on around the world. It is sad to witness and it should not be happening as frequently as it is. Between school shootings, people committing suicide, and simple acts of bullying, the world is a scary place. The turmoil is always broadcasted for everyone to see, but hardly ever any positive or kind moments that should be.
That is why I am a firm believer in being kind to everyone that you interact with. Even if you do not know them that well, don't judge a book by its cover. Just treat others the way you would want to be treated. Sure, sometimes the feelings are not reciprocated, but that shouldn't matter.
There are always going to be negative, rude, and hurtful people in the world. There is no way around it. However, you have the power to choose to be the better person in every situation and that is what counts in the long run.
Everywhere you look there is something terrible happening, which is why even just the smallest act of kindness could make a difference. It may even bring a smile to someone's face, who knows? And what a satisfying feeling that would be. I would want to be the highlight of someone's day over anything.
That is why I try to throw compliments around like confetti to people. Not because I feel like I HAVE to, it is simply because I WANT to. It makes me feel good being kind to others and I hope that other people feel the same.
If you want to join the journey on spreading more kindness around the world, I gladly challenge you. There are days when I wish I could be superwoman and solve everyone's problems and snap my fingers and everything would magically be okay, but that is not reality, sadly.
Instead, I just decide to be kind and courteous to everyone I come into contact with every day because I know at the end of the day I am a good-hearted person and I am making somewhat of a difference. I may not have discovered world-peace just yet, but if we all work together, I believe we can all make the world a better place to live in.
