The winter season is here and many students here on campus will be experiencing a Wisconsin winter for the first time. Honestly, they have no idea what they're in for. We're talking lots of snow (hopefully), -20 degrees, and crazy strong wind. While midwesterners all have horrible winters, there's nothing like Wisconsin's. So, before we get too deep into the winter season, here are a few tips and tricks on how to survive.
First and foremost, you need a good jacket. A warm, thick, weather resistant jacket. For instance, a parka. This is a long winter jacket, with a hood (that typically has fur on it). Now if you're feeling high end, you can even go out and get a Patagonia. However, only do this if you;re willing to drop over $200. Crazy, I know. Along with a jacket, a hat is necessary. A hood will not do the trick. The wind will simply blow into the hood and the hood will become no good (woah, I rhymed). When it comes to a hat, almost anything will do. It just needs to cover your ears and you know, the rest of your head.
Another necessity, a togo cup for coffee/hot chocolate. Nothing warms you up better when you're in the cold than some hot coffee or hot chocolate. When you're walking to class, you want to be able to whip out your fancy to-go cup and warm up. It's easy, it's cheap, and its helpful. Just make sure it's a good cup that'll keep your drink hot for hours.
Next, well, I don't know. I honestly can't think of anything else to help you. I have lived in Wisconsin my whole life and I still don't know how to survive. Honestly, you just have to muddle through and know that it will end, eventually. So good luck. You'll need it.
