It's been widely publicized that this current winter has been one of the coldest yet. At the 2018 New Year's Eve celebration in Times Square, the temperature dropped to 9 degrees, making it the second coldest New Year's Eve to date. However, winters in Southern California are a bit different. Here are some things you'll need if you want to survive the vicious winters found in SoCal.
1. Light jacket or sweater
You'll need this in the evenings when the temperature can get down to near 50 degrees! Brrr. The uniform for a SoCal girl in the winter is a sweater, leggings, and some boots. Which brings me to the winter must-have ...
2. Some Ugg Boots
Uggs are a central part of winter fashion in Southern California. If it's below 60 degrees and you're not rocking a pair of these bad boys, you'll be feeling like totally left out.
3. An umbrella
An umbrella is definitely a must-have for our rainy season. You'll be out of luck if you get caught without an umbrella on one of the 10 days a year we get rain! You'll definitely need it for the half inch of rain we get whenever a storm rolls through.
4. Sunscreen
But really, if you're planning on spending any amount of time in SoCal, sunscreen is a must, even in the winter. Even though it seems like it should be cloudier or colder than the rest of the year, it doesn't always end up that way. UV rays don't take a winter vacation.
5. A bathing suit
There's always an opportunity to swim here. During the last week of January 2018, we had three days in a row where the temperature reached 80 degrees. January.
6. A sense of adventure.
Even though we don't get snow, there are plenty of awesome things to do in Southern California in the winter that you can't do most places. You can spend Christmas Day on the beach if you're so inclined.
Southern California's barely noticeable winters may seem unfair to those on the East Coast, but remember that the closest thing we get to snow days is wildfire days. So count yourselves lucky in that regard.
