6 Essential Items To Pack For Your Summer Travels

With summer comes traveling and with traveling comes the unfortunate series of packing. When traveling there comes the thoughts of what to pack, what's too much, what's not enough, and so much more. Also, there are two different people when it comes to packing: those who pack at least a week in advance, and those that pack the night before or perhaps less than three hours before they need to leave to get to the airport on time.

To make life easier, it's probably best to pack beforehand even though that's not always the case. If anything, make sure to bring whatever you feel is most important to you. Below are some travel essentials that I certainly know I can't go without, and whether you find similarities or not throughout this list, at least it gets you thinking about what you find important to you during your travels.

1. Your ID

Whether it's your passport, military ID, driver's license, or whatever form of ID you prefer, bring it !! Nothing could possibly be worse than realizing that once you get to the security gate you forgot your ID. The distance to your house is probably far too long to go drive back to and the possibility of missing a flight is a nightmare within itself.

The night before you pack put your ID, money, etc. all in your bag the night before so you don't have to worry about losing it or forgetting it. Let's hope it never happens to any of us *knock on wood*.

2. Money

As mentioned, not only is identification important to bring but money as well. Money should be among some of the first essentials you think of regardless, but that doesn't mean some people remember all the time to bring it with them on their travels. Yes, credit/debit card may be your go-to for traveling, but cash is equally as important to have on deck.

Money will be there for us rather you'd like to upgrade that seat, buy some snacks or a nice read for the plane, and of course, when you get to your destination.

3. Books, Music, Magazines Oh My!

Whether you're an avid book reader like me or prefer to have music/podcasts keep you busy, bring some items to keep your travels exciting and eventful. Some people can't stand having to sit in silence, so it's probably best to have some entertainment along the way.

While the stores within the airport may have some entertainment for you to buy, go ahead and save that $$$!

4. Toiletries

Yes, you probably put your toiletry bag in your checked in suitcase or the carry-on suitcase that you'll put overhead may have some of the important toiletries, but keep them in your backpack/purse as well. It's always best to carry them near you because you never know when you'll need them.

Plus, the airport has way too many people and a lot of germs, it doesn't hurt to have that hand sanitizer on you. Lotion is always key and maybe you ate something that left your breath anything but fresh, toothpaste will be right there with you if gum can't do the job, and deodorant is always a safe bet. All it takes is a quick trip to the bathroom.

5. Chargers

Nothing worse among the many things as mentioned above than forgetting your charges for your electronics. It's always best to have everything charged beforehand and if possible, bringing a portable charging device as well. The possibility of canceled flights, a fast draining battery, and contacting others at your destination sometimes require a phone in hand.

6. Lights, Camera, Action!

This may be a me thing and probably not important for some, but always bring your camera if possible. The world has so many wonderful sights and you never know what may catch your eye along the way.

While some of these essentials are definitely ones I double check my bag for, it may not be what you feel is important. Although I think it's safe to say that #1 and #2 are important for everyone. Always make sure to check your bags before you leave your house and get in that car towards the airport. Safe travels!

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
