Summer. It is what we all wait for during the last stretch of Spring. We are anxiously awaiting the time when all we have to worry about is swimming, relaxing, and getting a sun-kissed tan. But, wait, you're not a kid anymore and now as summer approaches, there is so much more to worry about.
When you get to college you quickly realize that summer no longer has the same appeal as it did when you were a child. As a child summer is the promised land that you wait for all year. Spending every day playing outside and sleeping in is part of what made it so magical. There was no homework, no teachers, just you and your friends and endless amounts of fun.
Well, in college, summer takes on a new meaning. You still want it to mean fun without end but what it really means is making as much money as you can before school starts again, trying to find an internship, and taking summer classes so you can graduate on time.
You might find a small window of time to go to the beach for a week and have some fun but it’s nothing compared to those amazing summers as a kid. Now, I know that working is just a part of life and when you get older summer is just another season. But, making the shift from a carefree summer to one of work and worry is difficult.
Don’t get me wrong I love being in college and all of the work and stress that it can bring but, sometimes I still long for those summer days of childhood. Getting used to a new kind of summer can be hard but in the end, it’s a must because hopefully one day it will all pay off.
Here's to the summer of the college student may it be as fun as possible while also kicking your butt.
