You get to know the campus.
Going to a new school far away from home for the firs time can be stressful and scary. You have no idea where you are half the time and what to do. Summer B got me used to the campus. It made me comfortable and confident. The first two weeks of summer, I remember walking around with my iPhone maps on trying to get from one place to the other. Fall there are 20x the amount of students walking around which makes it more embarrassing if I had to keep maps on my iPhone, so thank you Summer B.
Everyone is a freshman.
Going to Summer B and knowing that about 95% fo all students there are freshman has a certain comfort to it. There was no better feeling than walking into a room and knowing everyone is our age going through the same stuff. I remember walking into my first college party and just talking to everyone and anyone and the first thing we would always say was "you're a freshman, right?''
No Greek life labels
Most girls rush in the fall which means we are in a sorority the first weekend at school You have all new friends just by being in the same sorority. Summer there was no labels while making new friends. I now have friends in almost every sorority and fraternity due to Summer B.
You get to experience the new foods first.
I went to every single restaurant in Gainesville over summer. After 6 weeks, I knew were all the hot spots for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert were. The best part of experiencing Gainesville's food over the summer was no extremely long waits like there are now in fall.
The classes are easier.
This might be my own little theory, but I thought that the classes were much easier. Maybe it was because I only took 3 classes (9 credits each) or because the classes were all prerequisite. Either way I thought my Summer B classes were the easiest classes I have taken thus far at the University of Florida.
You get adjusted.
College is definitely scary. I went to overnight camp my whole life and there was something uneasy about leaving home for college. I knew that this was the start of a journey for the rest of my life. Going to UF Summer B helped me get adjusted for the next four years.
The fun.
You will be hearing about Summer B for the rest of your UF career. My roommate and I talk about Summer B nonstop. It was 100% the most fun I have ever had in my life. it was an experience I will always remember and be grateful for. Do Summer B for the time of your life.
