Summer Is Almost Over And School Is Upon Us!

Summer Is Almost Over And School Is Upon Us!
Surrey Schools

As July is ending I start to think about how school time is coming closer and closer. For most people the start of school isn't so bad, but for college students I think it brings on a lot more stress than high school students.

For college students we not only have to get all the supplies ready for school we also have to find and purchase our textbooks, stress a bit about upcoming classes, and worry about schedules. From elementary to high school the students don't have to purchase their books unless they were damaged or lost during the course of the year. But with college students we have to buy our textbooks. However there are a few options on how to buy the books. Almost always there are different classifications on how the book is being sold, like buy new, rent new, buy used, and rent used. Sometimes for certain classes there even is an online book that must be purchased. There are also many websites that sell textbooks like the school's bookstore, Amazon, Cheg, etc. and of course the student can sell back their book at the end of the semester to get some of their money back. I am very happy that I am an English major because my textbooks aren't that expensive, this coming semester all my textbooks cost me under one hundred and I only had to rent one book, the rest I bought new. I am lucky but I feel really sad for my friends and classmates who have to get science and math textbooks and those cost way too much.

At the start of every semester, most college students are nervous or even stressed about their classes. I am a bit concerned about my classes, I basically am taking all English classes that I need for my major. But even though I am nervous, I am so excited to start my classes and learn new things! Another thing college students have to do for the new school year is to schedule almost everything. Not only do we as students have to go to all of our classes, most of us also need a job for some income. Which then our schedule has to fit classes, our job, homework, meal times, and most importantly sleep. But once the first month goes by and everyone settles into the new semester everything goes a lot smoother.

I have to say the most stressful thing in every college students life is move in day. Whether its going into a new apartment or going into the dorms, moving in is stressful. Before we leave home we have to basically pack up everything we own and then go over to where we are going to be living and then unpack everything and settle in before classes start. Last years move in day wasn't bad, I was moving into the freshman dorms and the athletes that had been there for a week already helped us to move in. It only took one trip up the three flights of stairs to get all my things into my dorm with the help of the athletes. Sadly I won't have that help this year, besides maybe my roommates. But move in day should be fun!

I can't believe that the 2016-2017 school year is here! Summer has just gone by so fast but I can't wait till I get back to school and I can see and hang out with my friends that I haven't seen all summer. I think this school year is going to be a good one!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
