Style Ideas for the Holiday Season

So the fashion blogger in me has finally decided to make her debut on the Odyssey. Here are a few fashion statements you can make this holiday season:

Get Funky

So "funky" is the word I use when I feel really cute and outside of the box, and so this season I highly encourage all of you to release your inner funk goddess and try something different. A few ideas:

Plaid, Polkadots, and Gold: This outfit I love for so many reasons (yay different patterns!), but I think adding plaid to any outfit during christmas is adorable.

The Velvet Jumpsuit: Okay, so velvet is the sole greatest trend of this season. It's everywhere: Michael Kors, Steve Madden, H&M, Forever 21, and your Holiday party! Also, the fabric is really, really comfy, so give it a shot and be a 70's velvet goddess at your party.

Velvet and Sparkles: Again, I bring up velvet because it's the best! Okay, so for this outfit specifically, I think that the textile mixing is really cute, and a totally statement. I actually plan on doing it myself this holiday season with a few things I picked up at Windsor fashions.

Be the Kendall Jenner of Your Party

Kendall Jenner is the covergirl for minimalist fashion, and I love her for it. If you aren't into the skirts and the sparkles right now, here are some ideas to try:

Little Black Jumpsuit: Basically upgrade your LBD into a LBP, and take a fashion risk while skill being low-key and chic af. Walk into that party like the Angles on the VS runway.

KISS: Keep It Simple Stupid! Also, keep it cool. Personally, I would add a simple necklace and earring to this look; but if a chill olive button down is your holiday staple, rock it. We all know one girl who shows up in this and kills in it.

Holiday LBD: I don't need to say much about this. Black dress + black heels= classic, simple style.

Elegant and Extravagant

Here are some ideas where you need to be as sparkly and extra as possible *snaps*

Backless and Velvet: See?! Velvet is the beeeeest. And that back cut out? You slay. You slay. All day.

Gold on Gold: I firmly believe that gold is the metal of the season, so I say embrace it! Eat your heart out Christmas tree garland.

(Also this dress is definitely reusable for New Years.)

Emerald Shine: I truly love everything about this outfit. The emerald skirt is so festive and the over all silhouette is classic and timeless elegance. And the gold clutch? I can't. So good.

Cozy Christmas

So every year I spend plenty of time getting ready for Christmas. I spend all this time getting all done up, and I walk out to the family room, and one of my brothers is in jeans and a t-shirt, and then my sister is wearing leggings. So here are some ideas for when I give in and go for a cozy Christmas.

Creme and Coffee: This winter whites outfit is so cute, I may just abandon my plans, and stay home in this.

Statement Coat: Turn your jeans and turtleneck up a notch with a cozy coat. The fluff is just enough to give it a festive feel.

Skip the Party: Fuzzy slippers and Christmas PJ's are two of the greatest resumes in this world and sometimes out just gotta say your busy and cozy up with the fam.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
