I would like to start by saying how monumental the Black Panther film is for not only Marvel fans, but also to Black American history, and pop culture in general. It is not every day that those of us from minority backgrounds get the opportunity to see representations of ourselves in mass media, especially in a positive light. Seeing black people and culture represented on such a large scale is already a big deal... But being portrayed as empowered, innovative, beautiful individuals makes this much more than just another Marvel superhero movie.
It's epic. It's a celebration. Black people, along with many other minorities, have endured centuries of discrimination, misrepresentation and disregard for their numerous contributions to society and culture. This film pays homage to the struggles faced and represents the good that can come out of defying the odds. That being said the anticipation of this movie has been building since word got out that it was in the works in 2014.
The film officially hits the box office on February 16. The Los Angeles World Premiere of Black Panther took place at the end of January and the stars in attendance looked absolutely stunning. The stars of the film have attended multiple premieres allover the world to promote the film, sprinkling #BlackGirlMagic and #BlackBoyJoy everywhere they went. If these looks aren't enough to entice you to go see this film, watch this trailer, and then go buy your ticket!
Actress Lupita Nyong'o looked absolutely regal at the Los Angeles premiere of the film. Her jewel-toned plunging gown, with gold and black jeweled details, was stunning and truly inspired by royalty. The gown is a Custom Atelier Versace deep purple chiffon gown, with a long train and an open back. She topped off the look with bold, gold accessories, winged liner, and dark lipstick. Her skyscraping updo adds a bit of risk to the whole look and really took the level of slay to the next level.
Actress and Recording Artist Janelle Monae also channeled regal vibes in Christian Siriano gown with statement sleeves. Her electric blue liner and red lips, paired with a beaded choker and crown hair accessory stole the show at the Los Angeles Premiere.
In my opinion, one look truly stood out from the rest! Actress Angela Bassett was a vision in a bright Naeem Kahn fringe jumpsuit paired with platform gold pumps and gold statement jewelry.
The stars' looks from the Los Angeles World Premiere alone caused even more pandemonium surrounding the release on film. Thousands of fans took to social media to tweet and post about the excitement, I being one of them. You will definitely catch me in the theaters for this release. Extra popcorn, please!
