From Potions to Chemistry...

In the wizarding world, students stop their education after graduating from Hogwarts at seventeen years old. They are thrust into the world of adulthood without training later than high school. As a college student, I couldn't help but wonder what some of my favorite literary characters would study if they had the option to be further educated rather than enter the workforce upon graduation.

1. Harry Potter: Criminal Justice

Throughout the series, Harry's sole goal is to avenge the death of his parents by defeating Voldemort. He dedicates his time to not only training himself in Defense Against the Dark Arts, but also teaching his peers to defend themselves. In his most courageous moments, he sacrifices himself in order to protect the rest of the wizarding world. It only makes sense that this hero would continue helping his society.

2. Hermione Granger: Public Policy

She's a genius and she's an advocate. She spends an entire year campaigning for S.P.E.W. (Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare) and even though she does not succeed in changing the laws on house elves, she still makes her point very clear. In the epilogue of the series, it's revealed that she becomes the Minister of Magic as an adult... how fitting.

3. Ron Weasley: Mathematics

Ron? Mathematics? You mean the same Ron that would've failed his courses if it wasn't for Hermione's generosity? Yes, that Ron. People always fail to remember that Ron is a chess prodigy that managed to outsmart the brilliant Professor Minerva McGonagall's giant chess board. A man with such a strategic mind would thrive in mathematics.

4. Draco Malfoy: Pre-Law

Of course, this would only apply if Daddy owned a law firm where Draco was guaranteed a job upon graduation. Lucius Malfoy definitely comes across as a lawyer prepared to sue anyone that touched a hair on the head of his son. Even if he didn't go to college, that Malfoy trust fund would support him.

5. Ginny Weasley: Kinesiology

As soon as Ginny Weasley got onto a broom, it was obvious that she was meant to be a Quidditch star. Honestly, she was more talented than the star seeker Harry Potter and even leaves Hogwarts to become a professional player. As such a prominent athlete, Ginny would be inclined to stay in the best shape and an education in the field of kinesiology would certainly help with that.

6. Luna Lovegood: Animal Science

Luna Lovegood was a girl that felt the deepest passions for the creatures of the wizarding world, even if those around her did not believe in their existence. She dedicated her time to not only conducting research on these supposedly mythical creatures to the point where she knew seemingly random facts but also embarked on adventures to try and spot some of these creatures.

7. Neville Longbottom: Education

Obviously, Neville Longbottom returns to Hogwarts at the end of the series as the new Herbology professor. This career path was hinted toward throughout the books, but in order to reach that point, Neville Longbottom would had to have studied education. His kind and caring nature as well as his leadership abilities make him perfect for an educator.

8. Percy Weasley: Government & Politics

Percy had a vision all throughout Hogwarts. Upon leaving, he did exactly what he wanted to do: work in wizard politics. He spent the majority of his time at Hogwarts serving as the head student until he could officially boast that title as Head Boy during his seventh year. Upon leaving, he earned a job immediately in the Ministry of Magic and he immediately fit in.

9. Fred & George Weasley: Business

Despite their natural understanding of business -- they opened Weasley's Wizard Wheezes without the slightest business education -- they would most definitely want to learn more if they attended college. They were only able to turn their dream into reality thanks to Harry's generous inheritance donation.

10. Parvati Patil: Astronomy

Any Harry Potter fan knows that Parvati and her best friend, Lavender Brown, both adored their Divination course as well as Professor Trelawney. Divination held heavy roots in Astronomy, especially when taught by centaur Firenze. At college, Parvati would most likely continue her studies in this field by focusing on Astronomy.

The students of Hogwarts would most certainly enjoy themselves at college. They already understand life in the dorms and how to handle interesting yet difficult coursework. They'd have a blast!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
