My pastor once used an illustration in his message that stuck with me.
He took a perfect one-dollar bill. It was so clean and neat; there was not one crease present. He asked us how much the bill was worth. We answered, "One Dollar."
He then took the bill and stepped on it, folded it, spit on it, crumpled it, and made it look totally ugly. He asked us how much the bill was worth. We said, "One Dollar."
Do you ever feel like you're not enough for the world, or even for God? Do you ever feel like you will never be what He needs you to be? Like you've just disappointed Him? It's easy to feel like the world has trashed us as well, like we have been stepped on, folded, spit on, and crumbled. Maybe you have been, maybe the world has trashed you, but instead your labels have become broke, rejected, worthless, stupid, and less than. Some labels the world has given high schoolers is not smart enough, OUR GPA, ugly, not enough, and once again less than. It's so easy to feel like you're sorry and not enough.
Let's go back to the day you were born: Precious, innocent, and beautiful. What were you worth then? You were worth an entire human life worthy of God's love.
Now you're stepped on, folded, spit on, and crumbled. But what are you worth? You are worth an entire human life worthy of God's love.
Your value has not changed and will not change no matter what you do. That's the best part about God, in my opinion. His love is never-ending, immeasurable, and unconditional. Even if the world has stepped on you, God will still love you. Even if you feel like you're being stepped on, like you're not enough, remember that your value hasn't changed.
When you are feeling less than, when you are feeling like you're not worthy, remember that you're a dollar bill. Your value doesn't change.
