5 Things I Want To Start Doing This Summer

College students have much more time on their hands during the Summer months. Eventually, you will probably get bored. So, here are five entertaining things to do this Summer to help you have fun and maybe even be productive!

1. Going for walks or hikes

There are so many health benefits to going for a walk every day! Not only that, but it is a good way to clear your mind or think through a problem. I used to go for walks all the time and fell out of that pattern so, I would like to start again. Going for a walk is sometimes even better than going to the gym in my opinion. You get to be outside, and if you go on enough walks you will definitely start to tan! I would also really like to start hiking this summer, nothing extreme but, there are some beginner hiking trails nearby that I would love to explore.

2. Clean eating

Let's be real, who also says they are starting a diet Monday and then they never do?! Not just me?

This really goes along with going for walks, they both have physical and mental health benefits. I always say I need to eat better, and now I am going to start. This is a tricky one for me as I am 100% a chocoholic and love sweets in general, but now it is time for a change. Once I start eating better, not only will I feel better physically but I would even be in a better head space. My thoughts would not be clouded with how awful I feel after eating junk!

3. Read

Ever since I was young, I have loved to read. Every summer, my mom would take me to the library and I would absolutely love to pick out books and find new a new series! I even volunteered at the library a couple summers because I could not get enough! Well, this changed in high school, and continued into college, when I had much more reading to do for school than I was used to. Since I spent most of the school year reading books, I never had the motivation to read like I used to in the summer. I want to find that motivation and start reading for leisure this summer. I already made my first library trip to make a reading bucket list for the summer!

4. Travel

This one is a bit tricky because ideally, I would love to travel. I want to see so many places and do so many things! However, this is where reality hits and I realize I can only go as far as my bank account takes me (which is probably somewhere in Massachusetts), and then I’ll have to turn around and come home. I am a college student after all! However, there are still many places to “travel” to close by. I put travel in quotes because although it may not be an extraordinary backpacking through Europe type of traveling, it is a place to start this summer!

5. Try new things!

So far, this list has been things I have done before and want to do again. Most importantly, I want to start giving new things a try. Sometimes I do not reach out of my comfort zone out of fear of failing, or just pure discomfort, but who knows, I could be missing out on some great things! This summer, I want to start branching out of my comfort zone and do things I normally would not do, for example, kayaking!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
