The Stages of Missing Your Friends From Home in College

In the last few weeks of the semester, you suddenly start missing them so much.

The last few weeks of the school year in college are always a struggle. For me, one of the hardest parts has been by simultaneous dread and excitement about going home. While I've been preparing to say good bye to my college friends, I've also found myself missing my "home friends" even more as I prepare to finally see them! I'm sure most college kids will relate to these stages of missing your hometown friends.

1. Constant texting

You may have drifted apart over the year as you both got busy with finals and social lives, but in the last few weeks of school, you start thinking about your friends back home and you feel the need to check in with them constantly.

2. Being the first one home...

Being back in your hometown gets boring real fast when all of your friends are still away at college. Being the first one home is the ultimate struggle because you realize you literally have no idea what to do with yourself without your friends.

3. ...or being the LAST one home.

This is, debatably, even worse than being the first one home. While all of your friends are back home relaxing and hanging out with each other, you're still at school, taking tests and packing up your stuff. Your motivation becomes lower than ever, your annoyance goes up with every snapchat they send of all of them having fun without you, and you're irrationally afraid that they're all going to bond and become closer and you won't fit in any more when you come home in two weeks,

4. Preparing what you're going to say to them

When you don't feel like studying any more, your mind starts to wander and you imagine the moment when you will finally reunite with your friends over and over again in your head. You start to plan out what you need to tell them about first, where you should get food on the first day you're home, and that one story they started telling you that one day that you need to ask them about.

5. Nonstop talking about them

You know you're being annoying but you can't stop telling your college friends about your friends back home, trying to explain inside jokes they don't get, and emphasizing how excited you are over and over. You hope your college friends understand that you love them all equally, and don't worry, they get it.

6. The Countdown

When you're finally in the final days before going home, it's all you can think about. Three days. Two days. One day. 12 hours. 46 minutes. You know the exact moment you will meet up. You feel a little bad for being more excited to see your friends than your family, but they'll always be there.

Happy reuniting!

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
