15 Ideas For A Spring Break 'Staycation' In Your Hometown

Spring break always comes at a much-needed point in the spring semester. Midterms are happening and everyone is just ready to cool down for a few before finishing out the year. If you're like me and never end up going anywhere for spring break, then sometimes it can get kind of boring without much to do. Fear not, this year I have plenty of plans for your staycation in your hometown. You'll have too much to do and not enough time to do it.

1. Hang out with your old friends

If you're lucky enough that your spring break lines up with your old friends' spring breaks, then definitely hit them up! Even if you aren't as close as you used to be, it can still be fun to catch up and see how everyone's life is going.

2. Check off some books from your to-read list

If you're like me, you have a to-read list that's miles longer than the time in your schedule. Take this break and check off one or two of them.

3. Or check movies and shows off of your to-watch list

Again, it always seems like there are so many interesting movies out there, but never enough time to watch them. Gather your friends or family and have a movie night.

4. Go see a musical or a play

Local theatre can sometimes be the best theatre. Look up shows in your area and hopefully, you get lucky with a good one.

5. Go for a picnic

Grab a friend and take your lunch outside. This can be a fun idea to do at a park, a beach, or just anywhere outside your house. Picnics are extremely underrated. Let's bring them back.

6. Go stargazing/starspinning

Take a trip outside on a clear night and check out the constellations. If you don't get sick easily as well, try starspinning. I learned it at camp back in the day. Spin in several circles and then look up at the stars and it appears the sky is moving. It's cool to do a few times.

7. Go to the movies

I almost never have time to go to the movies during the semester, but as soon as I have a break, it's the first place I want to go. It's so fun to see the new movies that everyone is talking about and to enjoy some delicious movie theater popcorn while I'm at it.

8. Go out for brunch

Brunch is vastly under-appreciated. It's the perfect time of day and there are plenty of great brunch deals that restaurants offer. Hit the town and find them.

9. Check out a coffee house

I love coffee shops, but I still find them hidden in corners nearby that I've never seen before. Find some of these hidden gems and enjoy what they have to offer. You could find your new favorite place.

10. Go to an aquarium

The Toledo Zoo has a killer aquarium that's worth checking out at any time of the year. There are so many cool things to see and do inside.

11. Go bowling

I haven't been bowling in years, but it's always a good time to go after you haven't for a while. Grab a ball and some atrocious shoes and knock those pins out of your way.

12. Dave and Buster's

This is a bit on the pricier side of things to do, but I've never NOT had fun at Dave and Buster's. They have good food, fun games, and a cool atmosphere.

13. Take a day trip to a big city near you

For me, this would be Detroit. Go be a tourist at a nearby city. There's plenty to do in places like Detroit and so many different things to see.

14. Take a trip to Costco on the weekends

There is no better place to get free samples than Costco. They have literally given out full slices of pizza and wings while I've been there. Take a lap or two around Costco and you have a fun lunch trip.

15. Get bubble tea

Bubble tea is probably the greatest invention of our generation. Find a local bubble tea place and enjoy the time of your life.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

Find excitement in your life and start exploring wherever you are right here, right now.

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

Great Value Colleges

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.

The winters at Kent are brutal, and while the heated sidewalks and some great snow boots are always a help, there’s no chance you won’t bust it on the ice at least once in your four plus years at school.
