Streak (noun): the insignificant number next to someone’s name on Snapchat indicating that the two of you have sent one another a picture for every day relating to said number.

Sorry, but streaks are stupid. Yes, I have a couple streaks because my close friends and I genuinely hold daily conversations on Snapchat. CONVERSATIONS. Not the daily streak picture that is merely a pitch-black photo with “streak” written across the middle of the screen.
People are constantly posting on their Snapchat stories asking people to start a streak with them – anyone at all. What point or thrill do you get out of sending a simple picture to a random stranger for no reason other than the fact that a little number pops up beside their name? If there is such a thrill, I have not experienced it, and I don’t understand.
I see no importance in keeping a streak. The streaks I have I could lose and be perfectly fine because I know that our friendship isn’t dependent upon a number next to their name on some social media app. Some people I know would rather die than lose a snapchat streak (being only semi-dramatic). When and why did we start putting all our time and effort into minute details of life? Why has a “streak” become more important than actual conversations? Why do people find so much joy in something so ridiculous?
That being said, do not send me a Snapchat asking to start a streak with me. If we have a streak, it will be because we are actually carrying on a conversation daily. Not because I enjoy the constant number increase next to your name.
So, is a streak really worth keeping? Personally, I don’t think so, but if you just absolutely HAVE to keep that streak, you do you. I’m going to do something more fulfilling and thrilling with my time than keep a streak.
