America, Something Has To Give After The Las Vegas Shooting

As much as this country discusses politics, I am one of few, who doesn't know what should be done after a horrifying instance like this.

It's a sad day, a sad moment in history as the worlds deadliest shooting ever recorded took place in Las Vegas, Nevada a few days ago. The gunner, Stephen Paddock, aged 64, has killed 59 as well as injuring over 500 concertgoers from a hotel suite in the Mandalay Bay Motel.

Paddock was a retired accountant with no criminal record, so what was his motive? Though he had no criminal record the same doesn't go for the rest of his family. His father, Benjamin Hoskins was known as a serial bank robber.

Police officers and reporters still don't know the motives of Paddock but how can you know the motives of someone who is a complete psychopath? This man knew what he was doing, he smuggled a cache of 23 different weapons into the hotel, including AK-47s. He was about 320 feet above ground and about 1,050 feet from the concert venue. That distance is insane and the fact he even shot anyone is crazy. This man has no known military background or from his brothers words, "He's not an avid gun guy at all." But the fact that he had all of these weapons and used a tripod to steady his weapons for better precision says otherwise.

Paddock ended up killing himself before police could arrive but as the police arrived, they noticed that Paddock had set up cameras outside the room and one even set on a room-service cart to watch for the approach of police officers. Something like this had to have been planned. He knew he was going to do this, he planned it out and thats what scares me.

As much as this country discusses politics, I am one of few, who doesn't know what should be done after an horrifying instance like this. People always bring up gun control, but what is that really going to do? The entire notion of gun control wreaks of fallacy. There are around 310 million guns in the U.S. that are registered. Now consider the black market.

The black market will not end with gun control. Gun control will not stop the violence. As much as everyone hopes it would, it won't. Gun control won't help prevent events like this but only put a veil around the real issue. That real issue is mentally ill individuals who enjoy seeing the pain and death around them just to get their names in the history books. Gun control would not eliminate the chance that a gun would be in a good person's hand that would be in a position to actually prevent a situation such as this.

The world is slowly falling apart, each and every single day and we are no where near to getting better. If this doesn't change, I feel the worse is yet to come. I pray for the families of the innocent lives that were taken in Las Vegas as well as the ones in the hospital. I pray that this world comes together and gets better. Only time will tell that.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
